Agree people are being harsh... but most 10 year olds i knew, pretty much where aware what would happen if they hanged themselves. These two kids seem to be particularly stupid.

What do you mean? Young children never quite understand the concept of death. They'll simply experiment with things they see, because they are curious. Its the same reason you have to be careful with children on a busy street, they have no idea that the oncoming car will kill them.
