I'll get one even though I really dislike the idea of switching to Cingular.
I pretty much despise every cell phone on the market today.

That phone is made of pure win, it got me aroused
/tosses her pink razor phone when iPhone is available
I'll say that if you do live in America your pretty much fucked when it comes to cell phones.
There are a shit load of phones in Korea, japan and even some nice ones in enurp that you can get your hands on today.
But it really breaks down to this.
Do you want a Phone to call people or a media center.
I would be happy with a phone that can text, pic, and call people, along as it's thin and small.
I'll just have to wait till my plan is up next year. to make any choices.
I just want a phone company that doesnt make me pay a grand a year to use a rediculously small amount of bandwidth. Phones themselves generally sell at a loss and are usually obsolete within 4 months, but the damn 2 year contracts are the killers.
I would rather pay alot for a good phone and only chuck out 15-20 dollars a month for unlimited phone service.
And yes, i hate cingular, but i still owe them my soul for a few more decades.
Looks pretty cool. I have been a big Mac fan for the past couple of years (ever since my boss at work gave me an iMac).
I do agree though, I wish it didn't feel as though the giant telecos in states didn't act as in they were in collusion with each other. The prices for cellphones and plans feel artificially inflated (although that could be because of a lot of other things such as current demand). It would be nice to pay $20 for 500 min a month and $20 for unlimited data plan.
It's a hefty pricetag but having worked in that industry in the past, I know a lot of consumers will dish out the money for it.
I'm already with Cingular, and was just about to go renew a contract to get a blackberry pearl. Gonna go ahead and wait it out now for this. $599, but sign a 2 year contract, prolly less than $300(Edit...fucking eww, $600 bones and a 2 year contract. Disgusting.). Not too bad beings i've already been with cingular for over 7 years now anyway.
yea, i'll get one probley even though its cingular...that phone is too good to pass up Q_QOriginally Posted by Sykes
Wouldn't you think Apple's lawyers already know this? They are already working out a deal with Cisco to use the name. It looks like no official announcement on the agreement yet. http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=4250Originally Posted by Sadler
Some of you are in sticker shock but keep in mind that this phone is targeting the higher end market. The ones that are willing to pay hundreds for a blackjack, treo, blackberry, etc. In the keynote, Jobs said that their target is 1% of the market by 2008.
This phone is about $100 more than the best smartphones on the market. That $100 is a phucking bargain when you consider that this phone blows all other phones out of the water. It's not even close.
Wait until the keynote is released on apple.com. You will see how smooth, responsive and intuitive this phone is. There's a flash demo on the apple site: http://www.apple.com/iphone/ however the keynote demo was amazing. The scrolling, the automatic switching from portrait to landscape depending on how the phone is held, the dual-touch screen, the proximity sensor. That's not even half the goodness.
As for the Cingular partnership, they did that so they could integrate some nice fuctions into the phone, such as the ability to listen to any voicemail in any order. No longer have to skip over 5 messages to listen to the 6th.
IMO, the phone company is not that big of a deal. You are going to find just as many ppl that hate/love Cingular as you do T-Mobile, Verizon, etc. And they all try to stay around the same price for similar packages. I won't have any problem switching from Verizon to Cingular.
Had cingular for seven years, and never, not once, had a bill come wrong, or have had any problems contacting customer support for any kind of help. One month, no shit, i was strung on cash, called them up to let them know, and they gave me an extension on making the payment. No charge what-so-ever. Also had some fradulent activity (cousin bought a phone under my name using my SSN). Phone was cancelled, i accrued no charges, and now all my account information is locked down about as tight as it can get. If any major changes are made, they call me directly to verify the changes. Honestly, Insight cable and cingular are the 2 best companies i deal with on a monthly basis.

Still not clear on whether or not iTunes is an absolute requirement for this phone. Again if it is, FAIL. If there's a way to use this phone without shackling it to fucking iTunes, HOT.
Wife sent me an Ipod for Xmas, and i have enjoyed it alot. Whats everyones beef with Itunes? Havent had much time to mess with the software so curious as to the major flaws everyone hates.

Keynote is up if anyone wants to see the phone in action.
2 major beefs from my side of things:Originally Posted by Neosutra
You are chained to a single computer. If you have a laptop and a desktop, you can only update your ipod from one of those computers. This isn't a problem so much with music but if you have a PDA (which is much of the iphone's functionality) it's potentially extremely annoying.
You are chained to a single application. There are hacks to getting around updating your ipod from outside itunes but if you have to use apple products to manage your calendar and everything else to the iphone then it fails because even if iCalendar supports importing from my existing hardware I really have trouble envisioning keeping it all up from work and home (see above).
Huge, bloated, slow (on a P4 2.4C, mileage may vary), QuickTime. Actually, QuickTime isn't as bad as it used to be. Personally, I don't find using iTunes to be a problem. It's a fairly simple interface, and eventually, I should be able to train my dad to use it instead of asking me -_-;Originally Posted by Neosutra
actually to the poster who said if Apple changes their name they are going to get sued, well they did get sued back in the 70's to early 80's by the Beatles. The Beatles made a record label called Apple records, and when Apple computers came out the record company sued. The judge told Apple computers that they will be allowed to keep their name as long as they did not enter the music industry...whoops!
Fast forward to today, the Ipod and Itunes are both music industry products and therefore Apple willingly made themselves laible to lawsuit by the record label.
But that phone is amazing and if you actually complain about the price dont buy it. If you can't afford it most likely the product isn't marketed towards you, instead its target is blackberry owners and others considering the switch to a device similar to Blackberry.
iTunes uses way more system resources than it really needs to.Originally Posted by Correction

I went to HS with a guy named Phil Schiller, I wonder what he thinks about apple jacking his name.
cool gadget and all, but i'd hate the idea of needing to replace my ipod because my phone breaks, or vice versa
