Wow he should probably be shot now. >_>; Or like, whenever he was found wearing it.
It's possible he always has a g.horn BRD on him when he tanks? But even so, as a 75 PLD, I can say that I never have MP that I don't know where to put.
This is Lei we're talking about. He's probably either wearing it as some sort of joke item or testing it for himself to see what the shitty latent is. Given the other available options like Parade Gorget or heck even a shield torque for his Aegis, no way he's taking that crappy shark thing seriously![]()
When they made the decision to never raise the level cap past 75, there by restricting vertical growth of avatar strength and leaving only horizontal growth through gear.
Two events which could somewhat be related. First is when the big influx of RMT, and SEs lack of action towards them. Second when SE decided to make it so that not evenone has an equal chance to experience all the content. IMO, this is what makes WOW such a success. Every play has an equal chance to experience the same content.
Ya I have them but they're still not a reasonable drop. These things should drop off something equivalent to a simurgh type of monster, not off Tiamat. I still don't see Tiamat's loot pool justifying the effort needed to kill him. Gaiters are still a toy in my eyes.Originally Posted by Konchuu
Jumping the shark would be... turning the game into WoW. If anything, the quality of the things they are releasing right now are only better than previous content. That content happens be good ol' grindy, story-focused, somewhat balanced FFXI, what FFXI always was and what it will always be(unless SE jumps the shark).
You guys are simply bored of the game. Stop playing so much or stop playing. It's been three years hasn't it? You've played enough, if you want to quit now, no one is going to bother you about it.
I honestly fail to see what would be the bad part in this. For all intents and purposes blizzard handles end-game in a much more pragmatic and convenient fashion than SE does.Jumping the shark would be... turning the game into WoW.
Quite the point really. Usually jumping the shark involves some bullshit that doesn't match with everything before it in order to appeal to others. (Sex, violence, people driving off of cliffs, ect). I think the source of the problem is that people never see/saw FFXI for what it is. It isn't WoW, so don't be surprised if you try to treat it like WoW and you end up hating it(despite being addicted as hell). Personally, I'm not too interested in FFXI becoming FFXI, then again, I actually enjoy when I play the game. Aside from RMT, the most annoying thing in this game is not the grind or "poor" endgame, it's pessimistic players. People who complain how much something sucks instead of actually doing anything but meriting or being afk in their moghouse.Originally Posted by Ryko
Don't get me wrong, even with everything wow has "going for it" I stopped at 52 with absolutely zilch desire to go on there but on a very plain and objective point of view XI could stand to learn from its competition. I don't think XI would "lose its identity" if it actually appealed to its end-game players in a more wide-scale and enjoyable fashion (yes I know salvage exists and isn't totally cracked, I do it somewhat regularly and I think it's a worthwhile addition that will work to accomplish that goal) and if it did then I think considering being an inconvenient bitch of an end-game experience is an identity worth losing. Camping 21-72 hour pops for the sake of having something to do (if someone says garrison I will kick them in the throat) is just a lol worthy concept. Between limbus, dynamis, assaults, salvage, enms, a dash of sky and sea here and there and ouryu/b2 though there's "enough" to do for a casual end-gamer during the week assuming they havent exhausted it by now (which a lot of us have), my recent change to not playing as much even after coming back made that evident.
I really think why alot of these newer HNM's don't drop OLD kings quality types of items is because of the drama that was involved with faf/nid/KB/aspid. I mean the only newer HNM you really see drama with is Tiamat and I really think SE low balled the quality of drops due to all the drama of the past involving HNM.
I think the CoP team ninja'd this into TOAU and stole Limbus from the TOUA team =)Originally Posted by Delekii
Salvage is like a CoP Dyna ^2 for me, except Salvage has good rewards somewhere down the end, but goddamn a whole lot of locked stuff on your char when you start a Salvage. CoP Dyna looks good now with just a subjob lock that takes a few mins to unlock.
As for when FFXI jumped the shark, when they didn't make pop items for the next tier in Sea drop 100% and made AV cockblock content with their constant patches to it. Other than that: RMT infested Sky killed that part of the game.
Jumping the shark is when the majority of the audience looks at something and goes, "Yeah, X is fucked for good.". ToAU actually redeemed the game as far as I was concerned- another expansion like CoP and my eyes would have glazed over.Originally Posted by Gulkeeva
I gotta go with Gulkeeva here. I <3 my ToAU cutscenes, cause I like story and engage in perverse Shantotto worship everytime she blows something up. Even me. But especially the Yagudo. And the Moblins. And everything else.

Please, go read the WoW Priest boards and tell me about how well they're handling endgame. It'd be like RDM's and PLD's ended up better healers than WHMs are.Originally Posted by Ryko
Better endgame content, but poorer class balance thanks to having to try to balance for PvE and PvP both.
Sorry, meant as a whole. Obviously there's some win/fail moments, but they both kinda even each other out for me.Originally Posted by Khalil
I still think SE jumped the shark with adventuring follows (not really the whole game), when they pretty much stopped expanding them.
Hardly. Unlike limbus, the mobs are quite scaled down, and most mobs are very weak in there, only zone I can see actually demanding more than 2 mnk is silver sea / arrapago, otherwise they're quite ok.Originally Posted by Appie
They're still new, and people still are trying to find information, the majority of people however are vultures and won't try to discover something new, they'd prefer someone else to do the dirty work as they swoop and reap the benefits without using a dash of brainwork.
qq more and understand I'm speaking from a "in comparison to XI in end-game content" perspective. I understand wow has its issues, I don't even think it's "some massively superior game", but it handles end-game loot availability extremely well.Originally Posted by Kyreth
Most of the Limbus I did in a PT with 6-10 too (not counting Ultima & Omega). Most of those mobs aren't exactly hard either, but I at least got to wear my stuff. Salvage has way too many categories which don't even really add much "strategy" imo. That sorta ends after mages got magic stuff cells and tanks and DD can use weapons/voke. After that it just feels like I'm in exping in Valk: barely any JA's, low stats and not all my gear.
And yeah with more info the ungimping process will prolly be a whole lot faster, but I don't see it become less annoying (some people call it fun, I'm not one of them) than the subjob BS in CoP Dynas, which I looked at as: 5-10min filler from SE Headquarters.
what I don't like about salvage is the fact that its not rewarding from the start like limbus was. I don't like the fact that I spent 2years getting rare gear just to have it stripped by some "artifical challenge". The salvage gear is great no doubt about that but i really couldn't care less if i ever got my hands on it. Alot of people like/dislike it, its not a homerun like limbus was.
