I've read the LotR books several times, and I have to agree that the movies were very well done. You just can't expect a 100% accurate portrayal of any book to movie production, EVER. It's just not going to happen.

The only thing that was poorly done imo, was when Denethor ran off the cliff while on fire - it made people laugh, instead of having the emotional impact it should have.

See, I've seen each movie literally like 30+ times. Each one. I can totally understand people not wanting to sit there and watch a 3-4 hour movie (I watch the EE's yo) but I can't understand why people would call them bad. That just is weird to me, seeing how I think almost everything in the series was very well done.

Everybody I know that saw the movies thought they great, both people who read the books and people who hadn't, this is honestly the first time I've ever seen anybody say that the LOTR movies sucked. <.<

And about it being ofn the article was dated Jan 11. Figuered it had new info.

I thought they were great movies.

I've never read The Hobbit, sounds like a boring movie, but I'm probably wrong.

I've read the LoTR several times, and I thought the movies were honestly the best rendition. The guys who made the animated versions of the Hobbit and LoTR should've stuck to the Last Unicorn, imo. (lol)

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed in the LoTR movie concerning the Old Forest and the Downs (nix Tom Bombadil... I usually skipped over his portion of the text). I always thought those areas really helped represent a precursor to the kind of danger the Fellowship would face once it got going, and was saddened when I didn't see either sequence properly depicted in the first movie. Other than that, I was mighty satisfied, $50-ish bucks well spent (seeing all three in theaters).

The Hobbit is about Bilbo, a bunch of dwarves and a dragon.

Doesn't sound as "epic" as LoTR, but I guess it could still be ok.

Eh, it's epic, but in a different way (not like superepic army clashing way). Bilbo's triumphs over Gollum and the dragon through the use of riddles are actually quite interesting.

Hmmm, I guess I will just have to see what it whenever it comes out then, I'm curious now.

If you didn't read the books, your opinion doesn't really matter to 95% of the fan base or BG forums.
Have to agree with Izembo here, except i did read the books. Its not that the LoTR didnt relate to the books that annoyed me, i just didnt feel they were very good movies. I didnt feel connected to -any- character and didnt feel the strengths of any influentual force. The dialog was rush, the acting was poor, and the only strength of the movie was its CGI, which will look lik shit to us in 5-10 years. Not even going to touch how they rendered Sauron being the freaking hulk instead of super mage god being that he was.

When there is an adaptation of a book or a comic into a TV show or movie it will never be a 100% perfect adaptation. Sometimes they get it right (Batman the Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, X-Men 2), sometimes they get it wrong (Superman the Animated Series, Teen Titans), sometimes they screw up so badly that there are horrible repercussions throughout the franchise. (Smallville, X-Men 3)

For as much as people like to bitch about Peter Jackson's LotR, the simple fact of the matter is no other director/producer would have done it better. Put Jerry Bruckheimer as the producer and there would have been explosions everywhere and Frodo would suddenly be using forensics to solve murders. If Joel Schumacher had directed, everyone would have wore rubber suits with anatomically correct nipples. Seriously, even if you think it is bad, it could have been a lot worse.

Besides, if you want a bad movie adaption, read Interview with the Vampire then watch the farce movie that goes by the same name. I swear that movie was supposed to be a parody of the book, not an adaptation.

I guess swinging your mace and knocking 50 or so soldiers away with each blow doesn't qualify as "epic".

Lord of the rings was very well done considering how much content there was in each LoTR books. A normal 2 hour movie is about 180 pages of a book, but LoTR was at least double for each book, so it was obvious they had to edit alot out. The movies were each 3 hours+ and if they added all the content that you are fuming they cut out the movies would have been 5hours +.
