I'm going to be annoyingly technical here and say fight club, it was basically word for word on the book. Not that I'm defending the fact that I think the lotr movies were great and people only say they could have done better but are too blinded by the fact that nobody would ever be happy with anyones adaption (even if Tolkien directed them himself).

Its all a matter of opinion, those who say the movies were terrible and jackson destroyed them are so far into the minority its laughable at best. Enjoy what you got, which was some pretty epic bad ass movie. I'm one of the biggest Star Wars fans you'll ever find, was I enthralled by the prequals? No, but I accepted them for their part of the story, even if Lucas fucked them up there were some redeeming parts that I enjoyed.

Enjoy the fact that since lotr, the good movies have been REALLY REALLY hard to find, those were the last 3 flicks we really have been able to be satisfied with compared to the rest of the crap that Hollywood has been shoveling direct from their ass to our mouths.
