I'm fairly sure there's two versions of firespit. One from mage mamools, one from melee mamools. One can be absorbed by shadows, one will always ignore shadows. I think this is also why BLUs can only learn firespit from certain mamools.

Oh and lots of beastmen have double attack, I think even Sapphire Quadavs do. Then again I may have went crazy soloing for a coffer key for 4 hours.

Rushing drub is most definitely 4 hits. If you have 3 shadows up, it strip shadows +100-300dmg. 4 shadows up it will take all shadows or sometimes take all shadows and "uses rushing drub but misses."

either way, it's 4 hits, I've ate a lot of them (really fun with berserk up) and it leaves you hoping it doesnt hit you while casting ichi.

As far as firespit, I believe there was a thread asking if they were 'ninja-updated' with regards to how shadows were taken. My experience says yes.

Basically it used to be one of two things that happened:
a.) Would ignore shadows completey + dmg
b.) would take all 3 shadows + no dmg

Now it's one of three things:
a.) Will ignore shadows + dmg
    b.) take 3 shadows + no dmg
c.) will take remaining shadows + dmg

I've been paying a lot of attention to firespit and while i'm not 100% sure, It seems that the mage(blue) mamools will always ignore shadows, whereas the melee (yellow) mamools can either ignore, take 3 shadows, or take remaining + dmg.

I don't think it's determined by the type of mamool ja. If I ran fraps I could show you a screenshot that proves it. The sequence was cast utsuemi:ni -> firespit (3 shadow version) -> utsuemi:ichi -> firespit (high damage, ignores shadows version).

I always assumed that blue mamools firespits did more damage because firespit is based on INT, but it is pretty unpredicatable in what effect it will have on it's target :< rushing drub on the other hand is definitely 4 hits which can each hit crit or miss.

I'm pretty sure the explanation of multiple-attack traits in beastmen was correct, although you'd have to ask a tank if they've ever seen one double attack. I wonder what a lurker's rushing slash would look like with a triple atk proc 0o. Also randomly on the subject, I was duoing tonberry elementals yesterday and noticed that the fire ones seem to double attack...maybe Madawc is right and war really is a fire based job? ;3

More important question: are mamool ja blusterers purple? or blue?

    please dont ban me; ;

This has been my experience on the issue as well and yes the BLU spell Firepsit can only be learnt from the WHM and BLM Mamool types and not the melee kind.

Question for sams: When you hit a shadow from utsusemi, is it considered a miss and zanshin can kick in?

If not, I know the fomor sams are sam/war. I was farming subligar in sacrarium, and they definitely swung 2x quite often. I don't remember specifically if they ever double attacked when I didn't have shadows up, but I do remember them swinging 2x a round an awful lot, and not always on straight evades.

Zanshin used to be level 60, and the SAMs in Sacrarium(50cap) didn't double attack until until the update where Zanshin became level 20. Thus, it was my understanding that shadows registers as a miss for Zanshin as SAM formors became a real pain after that update.

EDIT: Crabs don't double attack >.>

You can only learn Firespit from Mamool Ja mages and Warm-Up from Mamool Ja fighters because the 3 main ToAU beastmen come in 2 major subdivisions (Mamool Ja fighters/mages, Troll cannoneers/hoplites, and Lamiae/Merrows).

As for Sapphire Quadav having Double Attack, I have seen someone mention this on FFXIclopedia... Maybe SE just f***ed up on them like how they f'ed up on Mamool Ja NIN/WHM/BLM and the wyverns by the Mamool Ja staging point. I have personally never seen any non-WAR or THF beastman double/triple attack.

Dynamis SAM mobs are the most annoying to blink tank because it seems like their zanshin kicks in on shadows almost 100%

Oops, correction in my last post... I meant that it's 4 hits, was in a rush and was thinking about firespit and not rushing drub initially.

Although I'm still pretty sure about the double attack thing. But, then again since when does SE actually make sense.

And yeah, Zanshin will kick in if you hit a shadow of some form on your first attack.

you're right, they do. Generally speaking, in my experience, beastmen with jobs will only TA/DA if their job allows them to.

I don't believe natural mobs have jobs like beastmen do. One way you can see this in the passive "resist" traits a lot of jobs get. Natural mobs lack these. Try sleeping a crab over and over; you will never see "resist! the crab resist the spell." Try repeatedly sleeping a PLD mob, and you will see it. They do get certain traits that other jobs get though.

As for mobs getting DA at 25+, that could just be because that's when the trait first becomes available and not necessarily because X mob is literally the WAR job.

I'm pretty sure all beastmen sub war, I'm certain I've seen a whm mob post 50 double attack.

non-war beastmen can most definitely double attack, and I dont even mean melee types. BLM type demons in zvahl...
