Also, I noticed the new captain carries two swords. Any speculation as to which one is his zanpaktou? Maybe the short sword is just his play sword (hence why he cleaned it after using it in this episode) and the other is his actual zanpaktou for use only when things get serious? Or... maybe the short sword is his zanpaktou but it's just constantly in a released state like Ichigo's zanpaktou.

from the opening theme, it looks like his zanpaktou is the short sword, and it is in fact, a Lightsaber. the regular sword is probably something he keeps around for non-serious/fair fights.

I was wondering how they were gonna break away from the current arc for filler. and I think they chose the best way. question is, is it canon to the anime, and when exactly it takes place in the storyline if so.

It takes place right during the arrancar arc after Ichigo saves Orihimme. I'm leaning towards illusion or something happens that causes them to have to go back to Hueco Mundo and get her again.

They made it seem like genuine filler imho, they kind of had the black butterfly fly across and the narrator said "With Ichigo having defeated Grimmjaw saving Orihime, we take a break to tell another story." So they are literally just stopping the story there and picking it back up after the filler arc is over. It'd be really hard to tie this in with the main storyline without fucking up the manga's storyline so they are literally just going to an alternate time when Rukia is alive and shit and stuff. It isn't like they all left Hueco Mundo and all this stuff is happening I don't think.

The manga is 6-7 episodes worth of content ahead and they would catch it in no time if they didnt made a filler arc. I supose they could have completed this arc and stop where the flashback started in the manga, but i don't care, as long they dont give us naruto-like episode.

It doesn't seem all that odd to me. Espada 9 was a Gillian, and Rukia still beat him alone. All of those Arrancar that came with Grimmjow were Adjuchas-level, and they were still significantly weaker than Toshiro/Rangiku/Renji after their limiters were removed.

Yeah I was a bit weirded out by that also. Beginning of Bleach, all Ichigo could do was injure one, but he was able to injure Renji no more than a dozen eps later, yet these guys can kill them so easily? Meh, I'll just chalk it up to "Kira is an excellent Vice and trained them well"... can't expect too much logic out of an anime about spirit people that send souls to a special place by either hitting them with the hilt of a sword or killing them.

Why do you guys think they were unseated? There were only like 10 of them there, so I doubt they comprise more than maybe 10% of the squad. I'm thinking they were probably all squad leaders in the 4th-8th rank range of skill (i.e. about the same level of skill as Rukia and those two clowns who are always riding Jushiro's dick).

Ichigo is the only one that cheat. He just have to say "I cant die", and he get stronger than his opponant.
