what is the point of her usuing the bankai mulitple times? this is clearly a one-shot kill type of thing. Having a concussive shockwave that drops everything to absolute zero as well as apparently slice whatever it touches is about as Smash Brothers Homerun Bat-style KO as it gets.

For people that could block or dodge far enough away to not get one shotted. For example, I bet Shikai Yamamoto should block it with a wave of flame, so being able to use it more than once without being completely frozen would be useful in that sort of situation.

I think it's actually an interesting discussion, albeit something that'll obviously never happen. Yamamoto's bankai flames vs Rukia's bankai ice.

Wasn't there some scientific development a couple of months back that showed temperature is actually cyclical at ridiculously extreme degrees?

Absolute zero is just the lowest possible temperature; it's not like it's negative infinity degrees or something. If something at absolute zero (-273 K) collided with something at 273 K, and the two things had equal mass and specific heat, the final temperature would be 0 K once they're completely mixed.

There's lots of real life things that could survive contact with something at absolute zero (assuming we could reach it), but there's nothing solid that could survive contact with something of non-negligible size at 100,000 degrees, let alone 15,000,000. Normal human beings could survive contact (with minor to significant burns) with something at absolute zero, assuming it's not very big. You can even buy liquid helium without a license, and that's only 4 K above absolute zero.

I sincerely doubt it's a magical shockwave that automatically lowers something's temperature down to zero. I think it's more likely a shockwave of absolute zero temperature reishi, generated from her zanpaktou, which means that anything durable enough, big enough, or hot enough would be able to avoid being frozen.

I can see it being that, only for the inevitable Aizen-style "if you have enough reiatsu your bee sting ain't shit" type reversal from whatever Quincy who will ultimately beat her.

I'm pretty sure if Yama's bankai was evaporating the atmosphere and burning people of Shunsui's level dry, Rukia's bankai can probably not be blocked.

I do agree though. I would love to see if her absolute zero wave could compete with Yama's pillar of fire technique.
