Yes, but what I meant was that she says her blade hits anything in her field of vision. That's impossible (if they just copy her attack) unless she swings horizontally only.
Once again, though, Bleach has come down to another battle of conveniences.

This one I'm more ok with because there are so many characters with AoE attacks that could (in theory) manage against this guy. Byakuya could flood the room with petals, Rukia or Hitsuguya could freeze the whole room, etc.
Renji would suck.
I hope this means we get Ken-Chan in a few chapters when this guy decides to release and go serious.
Last I remember, Kenpachi's sword is in permanent Shikai. Zaraki force released his Shikai, without knowing the Zanpaktou's name. However due to the fact he was not in harmony with the blade, the edge was brittle and damaged.
Maybe I'm forgetting a retcon, but it was definitely stated that it was Shikai and not simply Zaraki's inability to achieve more.
The sword is in shikai, Kenpachi stole a nameless mook's asauchi and it turned into the sword he has now.
It's longer than a normal zanpakuto and has the different looking tsuba. All asauchi look the same, therefore he has attained Shikai.

that page says there has to be "communication and synchronization" to achieve initial release. Shikai.
http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Zanpakut%C5%8D
Shikai (始解, Initial Release) is the second form (or first upgraded form) available to a Zanpakutō. To activate it, the Shinigami needs to learn the name of their Zanpakutō. This is not as easy as simply picking a name, for the living spirit of the Zanpakutō already has its own name. The Shinigami must be able to communicate and harmonize with their Zanpakutō effectively, which requires being able to speak to the spirit within its world.[45]
Ken does not have a shikai. His sword was forced into that state because of his immense power.
i saw that line and thought the same; that and he's always protected her from harm in the past, so she didn't HAVE to fight.
That's what makes Zaraki special. His sheer power allowed him to force his sword into released state. But the fact he cannot communicate with it and fought without synchronizing with it made it weaker (which is why the edge is chipped and brittle) and means he can't access any special techniques like Ichigo gets with Getsuga Tensho.
basically agreeing that it is not a true shikai. Ichigo was the exact same before he underwent his training.
Do you mean before he got the meat cleaver? Ichigos first sword just looked like a super-sized sealed zanpakuto; normal shape, normal grip, just beefed up. All of kenpachi's sword looks unique.
Is permanent shikai even a thing if zaraki doesn't have one thou? I mean the only example remaining would afaik be ichigo, and in retrospect his was extremely abnormal, and maybe not technically a zanpakuto at all.
From Bleach wiki.General Sub-Types
There is one known "sub-type" of Zanpakutō classification, this being:
Constant-Release Type: Zanpakutō which are always in Shikai form because of the strength of their wielders' spiritual power, or, more importantly, their lack of control over it.[175]
Kenpachi Zaraki[176][177]
Ichigo Kurosaki/Zangetsu[177]

Released Zanpakuto. Whether that's his "true" form or w/e is unknown because of Kubo rules.
Ichigo's original sword was a product of him not knowing how to handle his reiatsu. They made it clear multiple times the size of your sword, lol, reflected the amount of reiatsu you can command. Thus the whole "open faucet" analogy used with him and the retcon later that captain-level shingami can control the size. He then learned Zangetsu's name and his sword became perma-shikai. This is no debate.
Zaraki on the other hand is a flat-out faucet of reiatsu all day, every day. Minus eye-patch of course. I'm at work at the moment, but I recall plenty of evidence where it's stated Kenpachi's zanpaktou is in perma-shkai due to the sheer amount of his reiatsu. There's absolutely no need to make a debate about true shikai versus false shikai. Kenpachi made the zanpaktou his bitch, it wasn't until Unohana fucked with his head that he wanted to learn the name. That was the whole point of that battle.
EDIT: And before someone brings up Zaraki losing to Ichigo and ended up crying out to his sword, shit was half-assed and he even said as much.
