Ah, I see. Thanks. I had forgotten the details behind exactly what Byakuya's attack did that caused him to lose Rukia's powers.

So to summarize:
Ichigo's hollow powers appeared while he was "dying", as they would have for a human that had died normally and had his soul chain disappear. But because he obtained his Shinigami powers at the same time, his inner hollow remained dormant for the next two arcs, until the Vaizards forced him to manifest his full hollow form and he overcame his hollow side to seal it away for use as his mask. For the Vaizard, this method of transformation isn't possible unless their most recent deaths as humans were also unusual, in which case whatever happened to Kensei and Mashiro (and presumably the others in the next chapter) would only be awakening their dormant hollow aspects. More likely, someone found a way to induce immediate transformation of a Shinigami soul (and possibly a non-shinigami human, in the case of the disappearances from the previous chapters) into a full hollow.
Also, hollow Mashiro == Qbee?

I have a few more theories on what happened as well, simply because one of them had to have lead to Urahara creating the Orb of Distortion and that spiritual depleting gigai to hide the Orb.
1) The attacker has a method of corroding the Soul Link with his/her attacks, forcing a Hollowfication, like mentioned above.
2) The attacker has some sort of item that works like the Orb of Distortion, reducing the boundaries between a Death God and a Hollow.
3) Combo of 1) and 2)
4) It is the Orb of Distortion itself. (kinda out there, but Urahara did get weird and jumpy when he was informed of the souls disappearing.)
5) Some unforseen method that leads to rapid Hollowfication as aftereffect (or failure) of the mysterious tests that were underway by the unknown enemies in Soul Society at the time. (more than likely not...)
Has to be one of them, because Mashiro was transformed into a hollow incredibly fast after Kensei. It could also mean one of these methods is capable of "transferring" from person to person like a disease.
Ya, basically as my other theories. XDOriginally Posted by Charla
the chain connects a humans soul to his body. Shinigami wouldnt have one since they dont have a physical body
the hakusui thing Urahara and uryuu were talkign about in those pics arent the soul chain.

a hollow with shinigami powers is an arrancer.
Not to mention the whole Hollow evolution thing we sat through with Grimmy would be pointless.
naw, he said original espada. I'll at least give him that.Originally Posted by arus2001

Basically the same thing really. That or it's another of Kubo's many inconsistencies. Well, we'll see in a few days either way.

Those lost 10 could be the first 10 Espada as well. And they never made it clear that Aizen was the one that formed the Espada or how they came to be Espada, only that he leads them all. Les you forget about Privaron Espada, all evolved from normal hollows, unlike Aizen's artifical ones (the fact that the 10 shinigami could have become hollows, then became arrancar, then espada through some weird action).
Just seems funny that Kubo made it a note that 10 shimigami went missing, and that some mysterious people are doing experiments on shinigami.
Well, I'd think that by now, if those original 10 were still somewhere within the upper ranks, someone would've recognized them. Byakuya didn't recognize pumpkin man. Aaroniero was obviously not an original. lawl at Yame. Ulq has shown his face enough for higher ups to know either way. Szayel stands out as a potential instigator of this transformation business, but I'd think Mayuri would've read up on his predecessors. Grim obviously evolved, and I wanna say Nnoitra did the same because he lacks the slightest bit of sympathy a shinigami should have. Stark, Halibel, and mystery old guy are kind of unaccounted for, but if you want to include Nel as a possibility, I could actually see her as a shinigami. Maybe even those two idiots as lower squadmates if you wanna stretch it into saying she was at least a lieutenant.
he said "1st 10" meaning original. the current espada are not the original. the 100's were. (actually dont even know if the 100's we saw were even the original. but they were at least espada before the current people.)Originally Posted by arus2001
that being said, i still say they werent changed to espada because a shiniigami changed hollow is a vizard. and aive yet to see a single Vizard in HM aside from ichigo.
After the fight against Szayel, Mayuri went scrounging for his specimen storage room. We caught a glimpse of two hanging bodies in there, one of them looking like a Shinigami. If I remember correctly, Mayuri seemed intrigued by the identity of one of the bodies, so it's possible that these disappearances will somehow be linked to the Espada in the future.
[spoiler:2lvbzwks]well, it's now officially apparent how the vizards have known about Aizen's plans.[/spoiler:2lvbzwks]
Wow, awesome chapter this week.
Okay. Badass chapter is badass.
Also.. [spoiler:2yyhmpnt]NANAO!!!! Oh god, she's so adorable. D:[/spoiler:2yyhmpnt]

Amazing chapter. Aizen really has some explaining to do. How is he even this powerful to be ordering others around and planning this kind of shit so early on.
Chapter was good, I'm really curious to know where they go with it since by showing aizen is bad now, how do they ignore it for so long. Yeah he can control them with his sword I guess or make an illusion, but it's just weird. He would have been fooling people for so long...
Not to mention how is tiny Gin so strong and why they weren't kicked out of SS and how they covered this up without Shinji and them telling SS.Originally Posted by Maguspk
So many questions in this chapter.
Also, it's almost like Aizen created a hollowization "virus."
Tousen had an afro like hair style. *giggle*
well the story can go a couple ways.
It's possible SS thinks all the soon to be Vizards are dead, or turned into full hollows using "forbidden techniques to gain hollow powers" which makes them as good as dead to SS. Its also probable Aizen will think they are all Hollows and/or dead also. remember Aizen said he called them failed experiments. awhile back. I forgot the complete context, but it was something like that. why would he call them failed experiments? the vizards seem to be working pretty good to me. He may think they lost themselves to the hollow.
Remember, earlier in the chapter, Aizen shows himself to Shinsui. which I assume is by the use of hypnotism (noone knows his shikais true ability atm). if the some of the Vizards live, it's a great alibi. They can get accused of agian, "forbidden techniques to gain hollow powers" with Gin and Tousen possibly a witness.
Either way, i'm sure Aizens alibi will be of great importance. and as far as how strong aizen is right now, it's only 100years in the past. thats not too long for a shinigami. especially since we dont know how old aizen is. aging seems to effect some people more than others, and some not at all.
the thing i was most surprised about was that Tousen was already a vice captain.
I am really tired when I read these chapters, apparently, and just noticed the manga numbers. Is this whole arc going to continue till it gets back to 0? Because that might answer everything. o.O
as answered a few times so far, Kubo has said he was taking about a 2month break from the main story. -100 is week #8, so shouldnt be too many more. He may also leave abunch of cliffhangers and just give answers when the time comes in the main story.
