"It's been a while.... Son"
It makes sense once you consider the material that just a key to gain entrance to the place is made of is a small city of human sacrifices. Aizen even calls the spirit king a monstrosity and whatnot plus Ishida's defection despite Ywach's involvement in his mother's death.
Then combine that with the tombstone line from this chapter and it gives the impression that it's a building made of human/quincy sacrifices.
There's also been a decent bit of emphasis that soul society does not automatically mean good at the start of the arc.
You forgot that they're the sort of shits that wont do anything until people land in the palace. They had pages asking why the royal guard didn't show up during the first massacre and the royal guard did a nice little speech that amounted to fuck off it's not my problem until they get here.
Except they're in their house now, so it is their problem. Realistically, no it doesn't make sense, but in terms of drawing out the story and letting all five characters have a chance to fight Bach, did you really expect it to be different?
hah

This makes me moist
Based Kubo. I love Bleach comedy, as rare as it is now.
I was right, this is hueco mundo v2, with orihime's and ishida's roles reversed.
I'm ok with that.
I'm more annoyed that they're just going to use a canon to shoot themselves to the palace.
Like really? You don't need an all powerful soul key that requires the sacrifice of 100,000 souls? You don't need a short window of opportunity from someone coming down quickly while using a bone-key-suit?
All you fucking need is a canon?
What the fuck was the point of any of this? Of Aizen's plot to convert the town to a key? Of Bach's plan to sneak in during the short window? You can just get there by jumping in a canon the dude threw together in a few minutes?
God Damnit Kubo.
Um, that's how they got up there the first time around. Through Kuukaku's cannon. They can't do it now because the Seireitei has been replaced by Shadow-Realm, so they can't get to the Rukongai (where Kuukaku is).
Besides that, they'd need to know the specific kido to activate it. I imagine Yoruichi knows it (or Urahara), so this is a makeshift solution.
It's perfectly believable. Much more believable than "omg zombie quincy mode".
Ah, I missed the chapter on how they got up there the first time. I assumed the Zero Division Guards came down to get a few of them to save/train.
Guess I'll go back and try and figure out what chapter that was.
Still doesn't make sense considering there's no need to ever make a soul key and kill 100,000 people if you can just shoot your fucking self there.
Is the opening from Ichigo coming down still there? As in, the only reason they can make it up there (without a key) is because Ichigo came down?
I would presume it's closed by now.
As for getting in with the cannon, key, etc., I suspect it has something to do with all this energy Yoruichi allegedly collected in those bottles.
Yeah I thought that was the point of Urahara's dimensional rift babble?
I'm sad the mystery person was yoruichi and not grimjoww
A) the gaping hole lasts a while and we have no indication that the hole closed.
B) they aren't breaking through the barrier since they're just going through the hole
C) this wasn't even 5 chapters ago. let's not pretend it's a timeskip.
D) Ichigo is wearing clothes that pucture the hole so he just has to be in front to rip things open when shot out.
