Ya, that just doesn't make sense to me. That's like saying "my special power is 'I win', where I win no matter what." Though, to be fair, that seems to be Bach's special power too.
Guess we'll see.

Can't be any worse than the power of imagination lol.
That actually bothered me less. I rationalized that to "near complete mastery of the manipulation of spirit energy." Basically Quincies were humans who could manipulate spirit energy, and the Soul Society was made up entirely of spirit energy. He was still limited in his power to create things as strong as his power level would allow (a giant meteor, which a stronger foe (Kenpachi) could break). He couldn't just imagine his opponent dead or anything.
I also still don't understand how Bach "seeing" or "knowing" a power/ability makes him immune to it (knowing the monk's name-removal, etc).
You're mistaken. He can AND did imagine opponets dead. As far as anything. . . he turned a bitches arm intp cookies. COOKIES MAH G! Like Xno said, can't be worse than the power of imagination.
You're mistaken. He could imagine his opponent dead. In so far as he had to get them to believe it. He killed Rose and Kensei by having Isane believe it.
Kenny had a terrible imagination so the only thing to do was fight. When Grem imagined himself stronger than the monster he saw Kenny as, his body couldn't handle the power.
Interesting. I'll go back and read it. That's not what I got out of it at the time.
Hash Brown is Tanaka, then.
Looks like the flashbacks are more interesting/important than I was expecting.

This is great backstory, but too bad it's Kuboish for "this guy is going to die".
Good chapter I thought.
This is the Quincy/Shadow realm Haschwald and Bazz B grew up in I'm assuming right? Also, I wonder if Kubo is going to use this opportunity to explain why the power of sternritters are so drastically different not only from the typical Quincy, but each other as well.
I would hope it's this other realm, because them "taking over" the living world would be... well, nuts.
I'm pretty sure this is the human realm; I always got the impression that the shadow realm was Bach's personal realm, and only contained his palace and his army.
Wouldn't make any sense if it was the human realm. And I know it was mentioned the surviving Quincies retreated to the shadow realm after the war a 1000 years ago.
It would easily explain why Quincies are damn near extinct in the human world, yet thrived to the point of an empire in the shadow realm where there's no influence from the shinigami. Bazz and the other Quincies rebelling against Bach even mentioned that if Soul Society is destroyed, so are their homes. Strongly implying they didn't mean the human world.
EDIT: Reminds me kind of like the Elw from the original Wild Arms lol.
Right, but Bach lost the war 1000 years ago and has been asleep since then, so Bach wouldn't be conquering the shadow realm at this point. This is the human world.
I find it hard to believe conquering the human world without any word of it happening would be possible. I'd also argue it shit tier stupidity since the world pretty much hasn't existed outside of Karakura and it's all important spiritually dense territory. Securing the shadow realm makes sense since it was basically their long-term home/prison. Heck, doing the same to HM made sense because the Hollows/Arrancar are a definitive threat. Might be a bit of a scalar and timing issue on the latter, but I'd attribute that in part to Kubo, again, not thinking beyond Karakura. This whole life cycle thing he has established pretty much falls apart when you realize there are more humans than Japan's and their culture. Soul Society and the Rukongai simply aren't housing billions of dead people. Though, that's also why I've been anxious to see a spin-off themed more in European lore. Just, you know, helmed by someone not Kubo so we avoid panels like THE HEART.
The flashbacks made it clear Bach only showed up to conquer shit relatively recently. Bazz and Haschwald are Quincies, therefore human and obviously not able to live hundreds of years. Not hard to believe the flashback takes place nine years ago when Bach supposedly woke up.
That's srsly bothered me a while. For all the waxing the protagonists do about saving the world, the entirety of that world is barely ever exposed to us.
There are only a few things we know for certain about Kubo's Earth:
There's a Japan, and in that Japan is a suburban town where all variety of supernatural shit goes down.
The notion that Chad is Mexican, so Mexico exists.
The notion that Jackie Tristan is PROBABLY American. Or Canadian. Or some other stupid thing.
That German, English, and Spanish languages exist.
And that's basically it. It only ever seems like Karakura is at stake.
Maybe he'll expand the world to a small town in Colorado.
