I mean powers are random as fuck in the overall story. Shunsui is just a good example of how random they are. Mr. Imagination is another one. The power to turn into soap (like in OP) seems normal compared to some of the weird powers in Bleach.

Only the sternritters seem random as fuck to me. We already knew since pretty much the start of the manga that zanpaktous are unique with their own abilities. Quincies were supposed to be just arrows and wings and shit.

I had it firmly in my head that Quincies were humans that just developed spirit-based tech, but then Kubo does a hard left with Sternritters and Bach.

I'm not even entirely certain what differentiates the Hollows, Quincies, and Shinigami anymore. They all seem like the same concept in different clothes, or like the same word in three different languages.

I actually wondered this as well. Both Manga Stream/Panda called him an Arrancar.
