I think what he is worried about is the game rules. No one knows what is going on, imagine fucking up a quincy only to get fucked up in return. If you know what's going on, you'd either stall or just run.

I get the distinct feeling his bankai would make a lot more sense to someone with knowledge of old Japanese theater. Each "Dan" seems like it's pulled straight out of a play or something that actually existed.

It also doesn't help that his is the only bankai that seems scripted, rather than a controllable ability. As in, once started shit "just happens", and he has no input or command over the results or victims.
