Because the DVD isn't out yet? Memories of Nobody wasn't subbed until September last year, look for it around then.

I don't see how it could be a money issue. Viz has to be raking money in hand-over-fist based on how many kids I see wearing Naruto and Bleach shirts every time I go out in public.

I started watching Bleach about a year and a half ago with an [AS] new years weekend marathon of the first 10 or 20 episodes. It was a good intro, but after the last 18 months of watching subbed releases dubbed Bleach is just painful to watch, as the MoN movie premier a few weeks back showed me. The english voice acting lacks the emotional depth of the original japanese cast.

More or less the same here :D the original voices just seem to fit soooo much better. re-watching these today with my brother and he was watching the dubbed version, Byakuya wasnt so bad but Renji spoke i was like wtf is this D: a lot of them sound sooo unenthusiastic and fake

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if [AS] just cut it voluntarily with how much they love to publicly criticize their anime fanbase. It's unfortunate they treat it as a minority compared to their crap comedy shows, but considering how little advertising you see for the block, I'm honestly not surprised ratings are low on a Saturday night when a nice chunk of people are getting drunk or something.

So yeah, directly from someone there. He wasn't supposed to leak the previous information about a possible stop of the dub, and he got in some trouble about it.

While I'm not a huge fan of the Bleach dub, I do think it was doing [as] some good for once, because we all know how much adult swim sucks as far as the anime goes. (Hell, as far as everything goes except Venture Brothers), so this is a really big problem. Death Note just finished, Geass is still going, but I don't think Geass is as popular over here on [as]. So meh. Shitty news for [as].

Also, with sci-fi getting TTGL, and Gundam 00 later on in the year, they're moving in and taking what's left of [as]'s anime audience anyway.

Whoa Gundamoo is gonna be on Sci-Fi? Fucking sweet. My local provider just added Sci-Fi HD a few weeks ago.

Yeah. November I believe. A month after season 2 starts in Japan. Gurren Lagann starts in two weeks as well.

Yea, well this doesn't at all surprise me if it's true. I was looking forward to seeing the later stuff dubbed but I've watched all the subtitled episodes anyway.

Oh, and unless you speak fluent Japanese, you can't say that there's not as much emotion.

I just noticed the episode titles released for tonight's and the next few weeks, they still sound to me like the Arc is finishing up

180 - "The Princess' Decision, the Sorrowful Bride"
181 - "The 2nd Division Sorties! Ichigo is Surrounded"
182 - "Amagai's True Strength, zanpakutō is released!"
183 - "The Darkness Which Moves! Kibune's True Colors"
    184- "Makoto Kibune is dead!

ok so i made that last one up, >.> but i can hope yesh?

Are you trying to argue that english VAs are anywhere close to their Japanese counterparts?

Dubbed Code Geass and Naruto are awful, Bleach is atleast watchable. The only dubbed anime I have ever enjoyed as much as the original is Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo.

Yet those same actors in Bebop and Champloo are practically crawling around in the same shows you despise.

Voice work for anime is still a bit of a new thing here in the states. It probably wasn't until in Bebop in the last decade where shows started getting ported and broadcast more frequently. That's probably why you can pick out at least one mainstream voice in everything you watch or play as the market hasn't expanded enough to demand variety or a higher level of quality control. Hell, part of this is America's own fault in not tapping into the mature animation market to create a broader pool of actors outside of Pixar movies that are still aimed for kids, and even then they just default to Hollywood actors.

Some things I'll just say don't translate well. You don't need to look past a lot of translated anime opening/closing soundtracks to see what's written would often sound like really bad poetry or get people booed off our precious reality shows. However, in attempting to maintain some artistic integrity and not Americanizing some things, I can see it leaving a sour taste in your mouth when heard in English.

Honestly, compared to years ago when voice work started showing up on the Playstation and such, we've made some decent progress. Bleach's dub, as a whole, doesn't bother me. Some voices might not fit, but that's bound to happen when you start working with a huge cast of characters and a limited budget. And while I'm glad Sci-Fi is picking up the anime torch with [AS]'s seeming abandonment, it doesn't do me any good since my local cable doesn't pick up Sci-Fi outside of the higher end packages.

Do you speak Japanese? If you don't, then I mean... you can't really say that with any confidence.

Now, I can see you doing the same thing as me - reading the subtitles and hearing emotion in their voices and making the connection in your head between what's said and the level of emotion they are expressing - but that doesn't mean you can tell the difference between a good JP voice actor and a bad JP voice actor. The Japanese aren't perfect you know, they do have bad voice actors just as much as we do.

Most of the problems with voice actors here is that they don't pull from a terribly deep pool of people to do it because a lot of voice actors aren't versatile like, say, Steve Blum. Are you telling me that every Japanese voice actor is like Steve Blum? Come on now.

Not to mention, if you've ever heard an anime dubbed in German, Spanish (I have seen these myself), French, or other languages, they seem to sound just as ridiculous as English. Also, remember that the Japanese may even be able to afford better actors since Anime is a huge deal over there. Over here, adolescent cartoons (especially dubs) aren't quite as popular as kids cartoons.

If you want to do yourself a good favor, try watching a Japanese dub of an English show. I think you'll change your mind about the precious Japanese. It's extremely difficult to dub a show and convey the same emotion with different lines in the same amount of time.
