I was referring more that there is precedent for a shikai not being an all or none release, that it is possible for some of its powers to be available but not all of it.

Then again, since most of us are 2-3x the target age of readership, he could have done it artistically to explain exactly what she was saying her sword did for the benefit of his young readers. But then again, that would be Kubo a lot of credit.

I seem to remember multiple times over the years the stronger of the bleach characters have used their shikai without saying a release command. Hell, Yamamoto would use the release command only as an afterthought. He never had to use the command before the powers activated. Being that Yachiru is Ken's blade, she definitely fits that bill.

But again, "lol trying to use logic in bleach" etc.

After a shinigami has attained bankai then they can release their shikai silently without a command line or a name. Renji does it when fighting Byakuya which is how Byakuya figures out that Renji has attained bankai.

Personally looking at the reflection of Yachiru's eyes as a clue of what we see. Guessing Kenpachi's shikai will lose that "cap" or whatever is on top of it and it'll become a lengthened blade, possibly variable. Given he's fighting a giant, pitting a massive sword against another is something I'd see Kubo doing. Could also play on the whole "copycat" ability Yachiru hinted at with her little show time.

Then again, wasn't there some fanfic where Kenpachi's power was described as matching whomever he thought and Kubo was like, "That's close!" even though could also justify that some with him sub-consciously holding back to just find good opponents.

I thought the explanation, and the reason for Kenpachi having to kill the captain of the other division was because he subconsciously lowered his power to match his opponent to give himself a fight.

Now, that said, you could say Kenpachi is doing somewhat of a "copycat" there, and Yachiru mentioned a copycat ability, so...that could very well be linked to his final bankai ability.

I think Nozarashi's bankai is going to be what Yachiru showed us. It's not her shikai. It's the ability of Nozarashi albeit in a childish representation. Ken's single swing will cut multiple times or have the force of multiple swings. Combined with a healing attribute dependent on his unassailable will, he will overwhelm Gerard to the point where no miracle can save him and all he has now is despair.
