Either way, it's reasonable to assume by that panel that Hisagi attained it if Kensei was forcing it from him.

I don't speak Japanese so I can't directly dispute you, but I've never heard this argument before and I'm not inclined to think MangaStream would go with such an intentionally misleading translation (and then never get called on it). There is also an interview (that I cannot currently look for) before this final arc where Kubo says we have yet to see a lot of bankais, including Hisagi's.

I don't personally speak Japanese, no, but there's been a few discussions about it on a couple other forums I sometimes frequent (including Mangahelpers and Gamefaqs), where there are multiple people who can read Japanese talked about it. One of them is quite known over on the MH forums for his accuracy (I believe his name is Hermes).

It's still entirely possible that he's got bankai; I'm just starting to personally doubt it since Kubo has passed up showing it so many times, and there's only like two foes left.

The Shiba Clan was one of the Four Great Noble Houses of the Seireitei until Isshin chose to defect from his shinigami duties and live in KK. At that time Clan Shiba fell from grace, which is why Kukaku fucking hates him.

He defected, of course, to live with Masaki Kurosaki, so it was at that time he renounced his Shiba surname and assumed hers.

Hisagi looks like Ichigo and Kaien by sheer coincidence -- there is no relation.
