Who cares? Honestly, I think it was a mistake for the writers to keep her alive after Aizen nearly killed her. It would have been more dramatic that way, and we wouldn't have to see her useless ass again.

nobody except hollows are allowed to die in bleach. or people in flashbacks. but even then, they didnt simply just die, they got turned into hollows. or are stupid spirits trying to be eaten by hollows.

seems like a fine enough way to find out why his sword was shaped like that.
I know people probably thought it was a weird shape, but did anyone wonder why? I doubt they cared. and before now there wasnt really a way for us to find out without it being really awkard.
Random 3rd squad shinigami: "hello Kira, how are you today?"
Kira: "I'm doing fine, how about you?"
random shinigami: "Im doing just great"
Kira: "did you know, my shikai is shaped this way to make it easier to behead people"
random shinigami: "no, I didnt know that. I am more knowledgable now though that you have told me that"
his only fights he has had before now were against people he didnt want to kill, so of course he wasnt going to use it that way on them.

See, I always thought it was shaped like a man with his head bowed, which would also sort of fit with the meaning of the name. I do remember a couple of my friends discussing how a real sword shaped like that would break very easily at the corners. Zanpakuto clearly do not obey the principles of metallurgy.
