I'm pretty sure both captains carry 2 zampaktou's forming 2 twin weapons, where as everyone else it's 1 zamp. that's shikai is 2 weapons.

Also, possible I guess that people don't know that their releases are 2 weapons, I mean, baldy's was a secret, it's also a bankai but I guess some things are secret. Is a Shikai a requirement for Lieutenant?

Anyway, according to wikipedia,

Ukitake's zanpakutō is Sōgyo no Kotowari (双魚の理, Sōgyo no Kotowari? literally "truth of Pisces"; translated in the English manga as "law of the twin fish"). His zanpakutō is, along with that of Shunsui's, one of only two zanpakutō in Soul Society to exist as a pair. Where it differs from Shunsui's is that it only becomes a pair after its release

Which is exactly what Shuuhei's just did. So either Commander didn't know what one lieutenant's shikai looked like (which is possible I guess, since Matsumoto didn't know what Kira's did the first time he used it) or Kubo just forgot about his own canon. Or else there's something else strange going on like "it's actually just one double-bladed scythe, the second is an illusion. See? Now it looks like I have 50 of them!"

These filler fights are lame as hell, I think his Zanpaktou is stupid if it's just a simple power type like it appears. I just want these to be over but you know Ikkaku's will take 5 chapters and 3 flashback chapters.
