sadly the whole shikai/bankai system encourages this. I never did understand why they start with unreleased sword then shikai then bankai as theyre opponent goes up in strength with them.

You could call it strategy I guess. Learn your opponents moves/abilities first then decide how you can use your own skills to give you an advantage over their skills. Not that it's ever presented that way, every fight recently has been following the same pattern it feels like.

Same reason why dragonball z only goes super saiyan first then super saiyan 2 then super saiyan 3.


Shikai > Super Saiyan
Bankai > Super Saiyan 2
Hollow Mask > Super Saiyan 3

If you think about it like that Bleach is just DBZ with swords.

That's why I like Shikimaru's fights only in naruto because hes the only one that doesnt follow a linear path to get stronger than spam that same move. He uses something called strategy rather than I'm gonna do the same thing over and over and hope it works then when it doesn't i'll find a new strength in my desperation and win.
