What I don't get is Yami is in that Espada picture but he seemed far too weak in the previous encounter. I'll actually be pretty disappointed if all the sudden he's of Espada level in future chapters of the manga.

Wasn't it said that the Espada were chosen for their particularly destructive capabilities, maybe Yami has some super abilities or a real strong release form that makes him special. He did get messed up pretty bad when him and Ulquiorra first visited.

they have the stone... why not use it on themselves?

I have absolutely no idea what happens in the manga past the anime, but I would assume that Aizen, Gin, and Tousen would be considered Vizard and not Arrancar, even if they used the stone on themselves, which is kind of how I assumed that Ichigo had such a strong hollow presence within him from interacting with the stone inside Rukia when he first became a Shinigami. If I'm wrong because of something explained in the manga, then ignore all this lol.

you'd be correct technically.

vizard's are shinigami with hollow counterparts and arrancar are hollows with shinigami parts.

but i mean... they live in heuco mundo now right and i doubt HIGHLY that anyone besides ichigo know of the vizards existance so aizen and therefor everyone else wouldn't use the term vizard to explain their power and therefor they would count themselves as espada

He is the 10th Espada and by numbers would be the weakest of them. Also, we haven't seen if he has any notable/special abilities in his released form.

I think you're confusing Yami with Ulquiorra? Yami did fight like Blackice said and lost his arm. Yoruichi and to a lesser extent Urahara engaged with him at that time as well.

im not confused at all, yami was the one that engaged ichigo, ulquiorra just stood there and did nothing.
