critical reception as a whole has been mostly mediocre and average. Two reviews from Anime News Network have ranked it as a C, it received a C+ review from MangaCast, a Den of Geek review gave it 3/5 stars, and an IGN review concluded it was "no better or worse that many other shōnen titles" with "not much to separate it from the massive stock of shōnen series that are similar to it". The universal criticism in these reviews is that the series as a whole lacks originality, with most mentioning that it reads very much like an author's first effort, and would appeal mostly to fans of the author.

ANN said the action was entertainingly violent, well-paced, and interspersed well with comedic moments, but with the disclaimer that the action was "the entire sum and substance" of the series.[1][6] IGN opened their review with a Tite Kubo quote from the first volume's flap:

The theme is fighting. Sitting there and just reading it without thinking is fine. But if you ever feel like it please try to use your mind as you read."

It could be a "great shōnen tale", but that without it the story was only enjoyable by dissection and comparison to other series.[2] Finally, Den of Geek found it's "wall-to-wall" action sequences colorful and fun, but complained that the sheer mass of them overwhelmed the rest of the story.

It's safe to assume Ulq looks pretty mad... also, that blow if not blocked, looked like it would have really messed Ichigo up. Guess we'll see... Orihime either goes crazy or ichigo becomes "more hollow".

This was an alright chapter, in that it hints Orihime may actually do something instead of whining and crying like an annoying bitch. but after reading Naruto 431 it was such a comedown

Id have to agree with this at this point. This whole thing has been going on far too long. Ive stopped really caring because nothing has happened for months. Im waiting for some mysterious new character to come flying in out of nowhere and blow shit up to end the series.

was. that's the thing. I think kubo got really really arrogant with his series and then decided to really get into it. now he knows he's dug himself into a shithole and he's probably trying to figure out how to not let the fans down but have a huge "OMG" moment. that's the only logical explanation I can come up with since crap has been pitiful.

except for the buu saga, DBZ wasn't this brutal with their bullshit.... I'll even say that it's beyond inuyasha bullshit, I wish I could quit bleach but I have blind hope that it'll get back to what it used to be

should let kishimoto have the manga for a month lol. sure, half the current cast would probably be dead by the end of it, but it would be fun, right? I think Kubo just gets too attached to all of his characters and doesnt want to even seriously harm them, let alone kill them off
