actually he was 1st holding back because he was afraid of his hollow. not his bones.

v Yammi and grimmjaw part I and II= scared of hollow.
v Mexican dragon tornado snake thing guy = was trying to beat him w/o using bankai/mask.
v Ulquiorra part I and Grimmjaw part III = was hesitent because something something how Orihime something something him using hollow powers
Noittra and Bull guy = he just got the shit kicked out of him by grimmjaw.

now, you can still assume he's holding back some speed because it would put a larger strain on his body, or you can assume it doesnt because Kubo just thought it would be a good thing to say to make his speed sound more awesomer, and I doubt it will ever be brought back up again in the manga.

I doubt Ulq will be a wolf, too close to Grim's panther. I'm trying to guess based on the "bind" release command, all i've got is some lamer plant... w/e it is I hope it's not too cheap.

Everyone is expecting Ulqiorra's release this chapter, but what Kubo is really going to do is cut back to Karakura town for another 3 months with meaningless fights.

Saw this on the forums I frequent for spoilers and sometimes discussion.

Shows the evolution of Ichigo's Mask, pretty interesting. Always realized it had more stripes but just cool to see it from the beginning to where it is now.

That was a pretty interesting read. Maybe when the mask turns completely black is when Hollow Ichigo takes over as the lead personality.

Hollow are white, Shinigami are black. If it turns black, it probably mean he has better control over it

I realized Ichigo's mask was changing, but was never able to say what exactly. It's nice to see every pictures back to back.

That is really goddamn cool, thanks for posting that. It is interesting to see such long-term planning, in the midst of all the complaining. I'm less inclined to abandon this story entirely. I really am beginning to think this might not be entirely Kubo. I would not be surprised if there were other hands telling him to drag it out. I mean, their main audience has been shown to buy pretty much anything if you throw enough cool flashing things into it. I dunno, I'll keep track of it, you never know. Maybe if this goes on long enough, and the popularity drops, Kubo will feel confident enough to make some story progress again and it'll be worth reading.

It's not the first evidence of long term planning either, if wiki is to be believed:

An early design of Shinji can be seen in the first chapter's cover art, making it clear he was planned well before his introduction.

Guessing the mask thing is Ichigo slowly completely fusing with his hollow.

The colors on his mask are actually red, so it has no connection to shinigami.

Rukia was also originally supposed to have a scythe, and he made up zanpakuto right around the time Renji appeared on the scene... he also made up Bankai and the whole Captains Robe thing right after Ichigo went into the Seireitei.

Kubo hasn't really shown any ability to plan, even if his characters have some sort of consistency (see Ishida) in their personality. The Shinji thing just happened to be one of his many concept arts that didn't make it in before and just happened to surface later on.

Kubo has already said, Shinji and that girl on the cover were going to be more of Ichigo's classmates at the start but got left out. Shinji ended up coming in at a later date as a vaizard and the girl was never used
