He doesn't control his potential. It manifests itself. That's the whole point I'm trying to make. His progression is the same and it's boring. He only knows one move, and all he does is spam that and try to move around real fast.

When that doesn't work, what does he do? He gets a new mask/level/release and wins.

Fuck. At least Inuyasha learned a new attack every arc.

Though I agree with you over his progression, he's learned a number of tricks within Getsuga (only that they aren't pronounced yet, if ever)-- he can hold the Getsuga within his sword (bankai) and swing the sword around with it like a ghetto lightsaber; (Ulquiorra mentioned this), and before that he learned how to split the force of it into two beams (if I remember correctly), and he can also use it to temporally shield himself from an oncoming blow (Ulquiorra mentions this to Ichigo, after he releases and attacks him).

Though Ichigo only "knows" Getsuga Tenshou, it's no longer a One Trick Pony, as he learns how to use it more offensively and defensively.

So far it's been 2 anticlimactic episodes and I'm not looking forward to another 8+ of that crap. I already had to read a gillion chapters of it.

At this point, about the only thing I'm interested in is how far the shonen extension theory will get dragged out. I mean, we more or less already know how this is going to end. Kind of makes me wonder if Mayuri's super human drug was a satirical exposition on the nature of popular manga plot extension, where in time seemingly slows to a crawl and for what takes only a few minutes feels like an eternity.

I'd say the entire battle will compose of about 40~50 episodes. That includes Ichigo's fight in Hueco Mundo (5-6 episodes easy), and what's on going now. Then maybe like 5-10 filler episodes of some form in all that.
