What episode did this filler arc start on, it sounds interesting even though I have no idea what you guys are talking about, people fighting their own swords and shit.

I think it was 230. It's pretty crazy that this filler is actually enjoyable.

To his credit, I'm pretty happy that at the least, Kubo has focused on only one fight the last few chapters instead of jumping back and forth and giving us 2-3 panels of each fight every week like he was doing in the early captain fights.

Technically there's been two forms. One the filler just showed was the one that first showed while he was training with Shinji and the others. The one that showed up during the Ulq fight was something that's yet to be explained, but if Kubo felt compelled to redesign the zanpakuto spirits for the filler, I wouldn't put it past him to just want to redesign Hollow Ichigo.

The way I understood it was the hollow form Ichigo used against Zangetsu was his shikai form, and the one he used against Ulq was his Bankai form. Did Ichigo ever go full hollow during bankai? During Vizard training he was in shikai.

Not Necessarily, when both Ichis went bankai to fight each other in the vaizard fight, the full hollow on the outside went bankai

Arrancer apparently have 3 forms as well. tho whats needed to unlock the 3rd form isnt too well known atm, and we dont even know if it wasnt just a special thing with Ulqiorra.
but in his case, he had 3 forms.

What a crazy start, I like the plot kind of but it'll be interesting to see how they drag it out for an entire year...

I thought it was lame how all the Zanpaktou looked like their owners but then they threw me off. The one that looks like Byakuya actually wasn't his Zanpaktou? That's confusing as hell... it turned out that his looked like a Samurai guy with a mask, as he fought it in 231, but that leaves me wondering, what the hell is up with the one that looks like Byakuya. Maybe the other ones which resemble the owners aren't really the Zanpaktou of their owners? I'm sure this was mentioned already but I just wanted to type it out because I thought I would forget if I didn't post it before I finished catching up.

Edit: on 233 now and wtf, Ichigo is releasing his sword even after Zangetsu is removed from him? I know it auto-released due to his high reiatsu, but shouldn't there be nothing to release since Zangetsu is not in the sword/Ichigo anymore? Bah..

Zanpaktou spirits are their own individuals who just happen to live inside the shinigami. a few of them have the same attitudes, but thats probably some sigmond freud infuence shit. a few zanpaktou are opposites, tho the only 1 that sticks out of my mind is Hisagi's.

Ichigo most likely still has his zanpaktou because you must remember that his spirit is two people, who are the same people. the hollow and zangetsu. they both are in control of Zangetsu. (remember the whole dominance thing?) All fluffy shirt guy did was remove the black wearing old man Zangetsu, leaving the Hollow Ichigo(who has zangetsu powers) in control.
I think Ichigo is going to be spending almost all the filler in "scared of hollow so wont bankai" mode again like he did at the beginning of the arrancar arc.

It is literally a carbon copy of Byakuya with a blue color set and you think it's his sword for obvious reasons but it turns out it isn't and then we never see it again. It must have been a mistake or something.

I thought I saw it that way too, but that still doesn't explain why he didn't come barging on out to fuck shit up during Ichigo vs. Amagai. Even if it was just a filler/non-canon arc. After all, he was suppressing Zangetsu.

Blocking shikai abilities and such isn't the same as removing them. Zangetsu still would've been inside of him, but I guess it'd be like trying to drink from a soda bottle with the cap on.

I'm not entirely sold on it just being a dynamic between Zangetsu and Shirosaki, either. Ichigo himself would be a third party, but he entrusts himself to Zangetsu while Shirosaki just wants to take over. Essentially it's a 2v1 where Ichigo determines the balance based on his will since it seems like Shirosaki's power growth has been greater than Zangetsu's in comparison since his powers manifested.

For the most part, Hollow Ichigo's shown up when Ichigo's lost consciousness. Vizard training's been the exception, but that's basically how it went in the Byakuya, the Bount metal orb dude, and with Ulq. The Muramasa fight might suggest how quickly Shirosaki can now manifest when those windows of influence present themselves. Will be interesting to see the Ulq fight in the distant future, at least.

First of all, the Amagai arc was written by the anime team... so they don't follow canon as well. Second of all, this arc was designed and written by Kubo. Even if it's not true canon, it's going to follow the manga's rules much more closely.

In terms for shirosaki, I've always thought, more so now after having seen zanpaktou-less shinigami, that Ichigo was using Zangetsu's power to suppress shirosaki. It's always been seen that Ichigo on his billy isn't very powerful, in the grand scene of things and as such, shirosaki has more dominance than him. Remove Zangetsu and Ichigo can't cope, at least at first, he still has the willpower to stick him back in his place.

Also, looking at Ichigo's releases:

Shinigami: unreleased, shikai, bankai
Vizard: mask, ubercool
Hollow: sexy beast

I don't think the form we just saw in the anime, and when he was battling shirosaki for dominance has anything to do with his usual releases as it's all hollow, and Ichigo doesn't have control over that.
