I thought the more or less general accepted reason for this was that Ichigo just has an absurd amount of reistu and struggles to control it/use it effectively. The times that he does seem to be able to focus or use his full potential is when his friends are in danger.

I can agree with that definitely. If it wasn't for him getting the vizard training then I'd be bitching about that but what I really wanna know right now is an explanation for the second transformation.

However as I'm writing this, I'm starting to realize in the context of the fight where it happend, it wouldn't make sense for it to be explained but I am hoping that it does get explained soon.

OK, thanks Souj and Kuronosan that had been driving me crazy for the past week, I find it odd that Hali and Ulqi didn't get one with the amount of time they had in the spotlight though.

and towards this weeks chapter, Shouldn't there be another fight with Shirosaki before Ichi is able to use the second stage vizard mask, another amazing example of the treacherous plotkai in action!

This is exactly why I said normally I'd complain about him using the new mask already. There really should be something explaining why he can use it now like it's nothing (I could be jumping the gun a little I suppose, spoilers aren't specific enough yet so maybe there will be an explanation either this week or next). That all said, if we don't get an explanation and we just get Ichigo one-shotting Yami and thus we move on, I'd be ok with that.

As far as the second transformation, it seemed to be completely triggered by Orhime's cries for help. He became 100% fueled by his power and instinct at that point. To be honest, after seeing the anime filler, that transformation actually seems to make more sense now, although instead of his zankapto/inner hollow leaving him, he let their instincts take him over.

As far as being able to use that same hollow mask, it seems to be going along with his mask progression as we've seen before. I know it is in here, but after major fights, he has been getting additional red stripes on his mask. At the start of his fight with Ulq, he was able to open the mouth of his mask as well. This just seems to be another step (although a large one) in that progression.

Or at least, that is my best guess right now. Considering Kubo never explained the mask progression at all, I doubt this will be explained.

About the mask progression-

When Ichigo fought Grimmjoww the final time in Hueco Mundo with his mask on (after grimmy releases) Grimmjoww broke off a big chunk of Ichigo's mask. Grimmjoww taunts him saying something along the lines of "you can't win because I'm stronger" or some shit to which Ichigo puts his hand to his mask and kinda rips at it with his bloody hand restoring the mask with more of those red lines and comes back with "I don't fight because I want to win, I fight because I have to!" yadda yadda and he starts beating Grimmjoww back again. So maybe the more damage Ichigo takes plays into more "hollow" he becomes.

Also, when Ichigo fough Ulquirra in his 2nd release Ulq punched a hole through Ichigo in what looks like a Hollow Hole killing him then he turns into the supersaiyan 3 hollow and wtfpwns everyone around.

So tl;dr version: Ichigo's hollow has a tie into how dead Ichigo is.

Yeah this was an awesome episode that I really wasn't expecting. What the hell is Byakuya doing?

Clearly by the end of this there will be a way to restore all the Zanpaktou. With a couple already "dead" now I imagine we'll see a few more Zanpaktou "deaths" before we find out they're really not dead, or this is all Aizen messing around with them in an all out illusion.

And I really still can't figure out Byakuya. Either he knows there's a way to restore the Zanpaktou, knows it's all fake, or knows they're really not Zanpaktou and are just some sort of beings masquerading as everyone's Zanpaktou while being controlled by Muramasa. While we know he's a prideful character, all his actions are the complete opposite of what he's claimed to have pride in since the beginning. Pride of being a Shinigami from one of the noblest houses or something like that. He's betraying that pride by doing everything he's been doing. Sigh, I'm thinking way too into this for a filler series, just shows how much more enjoyable this has been than the manga lately for me.

Don't forget his pride to keep Rukia safe. He killed her Zanpakuto which leaves her almost defenseless. None of this is really making any sense...damn filler is screwing with mah mind!!

wait who is byakuya if he is the zanpaktou spirit, then does that means the real byakuya is actually a shadow copy from his utsusemi move? or maybe muramasu's geass is to clone and control people?!


Seriously I agree it seems like his zanpaktou spirit is somehow him and he isn't himself, even though I can't think of any dam way that is possible at all

If it's actually Byakuya and he's not being manipulated somehow, he could perhaps justify killing Sode no Shirayuki if he knew there was a way to get them back even with someone besides the original owner defeating them and knowing Sode no Shirayuki roughed Rukia up pretty bad in the fight they had; he'd be protecting her by killing Sode no Shirayuki now before a possible rematch. Regardless, obviously Rukia and Soi Fon's idiot VC get their Zanpaktou back so it doesn't mean much.
