To be quite honest, I don't think anyone stands a chance against Aizen simply because of his sword release. The only person completely immune to it is Tousen.

To eb affected by it, you have to see the release ceremony first. So while all the captains and lieutenants are under the spell as it were, Ichigo and the guys living in the real world (Urahara, the Vizard etc) are not. However, who knows what the hell his Bankai is.

believe all he has to do for his hypnosis is release his shikai. and since it's possible to release your shikai w/o saying its name once you know bankai (believe that was the requirement.. assumed with what byakuya said during his fight with Renji), it would be quite easy to get anyone under it.

I don't look to the manga as bible or anything (Hell, I liked the Naruto fillers, too), but the numerical system of the Espada seems to be more of something imposed by Aizen for the sake of establishing a chain of command amongst his minions. While those three may not be ranked, it's not automatic dismissal into them being chumps. Three against one may very well be enough for them to take him or at least, you know, score a surprise attack. It's also possible he deliberately endured it at an unseen order of Aizen's just to see what'd develop.

I find it funny he'd just let the Hyogyokou or however the hell it's spelled just sit there in the open without any kind direct guarding. Either it's not the real thing, or a deliberate trap to weed out dissent before the main conflict. Either way, I wouldn't expect a radical shift in plot. If anything, I could see this as an adapted catalyst for Ul kidnapping Orihime upon her return instead of just so happening to ambush her on her way back from Soul Society at Aizen's behest.

Heh, called it? Granted it wasn't actually Ul that took the blows, but it did serve a purpose more on the means of weeding them out. Looking like things are about to get back on track, though. If we can assume them talking about how long Ichigo can keep his mask on as an indicator of next week's episode, anyway.
