Imo Byakuya's just making fun of Mayuri. I'm sure theyre all aware of what Unohana said about Ichigo being the only one not so be under his hypnosis, and all believe he's their greatest chance, however it's in their character to not say or act like he is.

I'm sure Mayuri's reasons for staying are linked to those 2 bodies.

Byakuya was just making fun of Mayuri is all, like Souj said. They both simply called each other out on the other believing in Ichigo to win the war-- Byakuya did this in a form of a logical joke. Also Mayuri is a mad scientist, eventually he had to have devious thoughts towards the main character.

Even if he can beat Aizen, Aizen still has two henchmen who are most likely are going to end up being on the top captain tier plus all the others under hypnosis which he can manipulate.

Didn't Zaraki fucking destroy Tousen? It's safe to say he's out of the picture. Plus, we haven't seen Unohana, Kyōraku and Ukitake fight seriously. I'm sure any of these could fight on par or maybe overwhelm Gin. All that's left is Aizen himself. To be honest, with Ichigo, in his current state, I doubt he'll lay a finger on Aizen unless he gets another huge power-up in which case I'm intrigued to how good his bankai will be.

I'm still shocked how they hyped up Yammy. And Zaraki is basically in the backround raping him while Mayuri and Byakuya argue. Noone can beat Zaraki if he takes a fight seriously.
