Anime speculation

First some ground work before I speculate. Since neither Shunsui or Ukitake seemed to know anything about Koga's rebellion it had to have happened ages ago. When they did the flashback silhouette of Muramasa's owner it appeared he was wearing the same type of scarf that the Kuchiki's have worn (Byakuya and his grandfather in the Pendulum arc). Byakuya keeps saying that his pride dictates what he's doing, but Muramasa still doesn't trust him.

I'm thinking that Koga was the Patriarch of the Kuchiki clan, and Byakuya feels that as the current head of the Kuchiki clan it's his duty to either a. help free Koga and help him in his goals (unlikely imo), or b. clean up the mess that his clan has caused, in the case actually defeating Koga instead of just sealing him away. This really helps to explain why Byakuya is working with Muramasa at this point.

Also, anyone who is honestly surprised/pissed about Tosen being a Vaizard has had their head buried in the sand. This has been forshadowed since we found out that Aizen created the first Vaizards.
