I'm glad someone finally broached the subject. I'm with kaylia thinking the main points of the series are planned out, but the finer details he does along the way.
don't get me wrong, kubo has his faults, i feel like i'm being trolled any time one of ichigo's worthless superfriends has any airtime, but if you think he could have every shikai, bankai, resurrection, doll forms and abilities of all the myriad of people that have come and gone in the series planned out from day 1, you're fucking retarded.
I think all this shit Kubo gets is due to his bad writing, like you said there hasn't been much progression. Kubo has become a sort of joke. Worst of all Kubo always seems to say things like this in his interviews which just makes it easier for people to joke about him.
You can say other shonen have just as crappy writing but the other writers seem to keep their readers happier than Kubo does.
Kubo's lack of planning is particularly harmful because the quality drop in the story since the Soul Society arc is painfully obvious. You can definitely tell the difference a well-planned story makes. In addition there are just a lot of very very very stupid plot twists he has thrown in ("WHO SAID THE ESPADA GO FROM 1-10?!") and very little progression (three years ago Ichigo just defeated Grimjaaow; that is how little has changed)
Naruto on the other hand goes through its ups and downs but it hasn't had a jump the shark moment like Yammy and it has kept a decent pace going. That makes me think even if Kishimoto doesn't have everything set in stone he has a very good idea where it's going.
TL;DR: poor planning can be masked by decent bullshit ability, Kishimoto has some, Kubo has none.
while we're waiting for this week's filler episode to be subbed, does anyone know who the cloaked woman in last week's episode was, that was talking to the elder kuchiki? I don't know japanese so i don't listen to the voices just watch the subs, and i was hoping someone here does listen to it in japanese and can maybe match the voice. I was thinking it was unohana but i'm not sure.
I got the impression it was Byakuya's mom/Ginrei's daughter. Only real reason I could see the need to hide her face is because she hasn't shown up in the manga at all.

new filler ep up. pretty good, things are getting interesting again.
Btw, watch the "shinigami picture book" at the tail end after the credits. fucking HILARIOUS rofl. I really wasn't expecting it.
But where DOES he wear it?
Picture book golden has yet to let me down.
I just finished marathoning through Nyan Koi and I gotta say, compared to that series where each episode felt really long, I honestly was shocked when it stopped with Byakuya blocking his attack instead of being at the halfway point ><
Spoiler: show
I was kinda thinking that too.. but Byakuya said he promised on his parents' grave that he'd never break the law. Also, I know bleach doesn't exactly follow consistency and also a grave doesn't mean he's interred there, but considering what a failure Kouga is appearing to be, I really hope Byakuya is just doing this to avenge the family honor, and not to open dear ole dad's eyes...
I still can't get past how they don't even mention the soul-burials anymore... not to mention how they've practically lied to all those poor people over the years about moving on to a "better place" in Soul Society when it's a shitty place to live and is just as divided with classes as the living world.
Its a "better place" over being chased by hollows endlessly. Not like crazy experiments or brainwashed zanpaktou or insane shinigami run around killing people in Soul Society, right? Right?
Soul Society is fucked up, what's new?
and noone still knows what happens to a shinigami when he dies.
Well, to be fair, you probably wouldn't die even if you were killed.
I think soul society is a form of purgatory for ppl that arent hueco mundo bad, they have stated there is other planes of afterlife.
But yeah, i was thinking about the whole soul burial and heaven hell.. w/e stuff too.. that got like thrown out the window.
The same thing that happens to everyone else? Reincarnated on the "other side" aka the normal world. Or possibly hueco mundo if that captain midget movie was partially cannon.
It was explained way back in the beginning of bleach when the reasons behind the quincy genocide were explained.
