I'm going to say that Wonderweiss's purpose wasnt to cancel the fire, but to absorb it for an eventual release when he is destroyed. The explosion will take out Yamato.



There is no way Aizen overlooked Yamato's power, not after everything he has done. Beside, he constantly say he doesnt rely on anyone, so there is no way in hell he is relying on Wonderweiss.

Maybe WW is passively absorbing energy for the King's Key's creation. Making him stupid would kinda make sense in that regard so he wouldn't go around say, "Hey guys, I'm gonna be the key! Aizen loves me most!"
