When he first used it was when he released his sword the first time I think. Urahara trained him to strengthen his resolve and he fired off another one against him. Pretty sure it's the same move cause Zangetsu makes a point about how much more powerful it is when he knows the name as opposed to when he was firing them off w/o knowing it. Too lazy to go back and find it though >.> <.<;

Is it possible that zanpakuto personalities might be hereditary, Zangetsu handing itself down from father to son?

Are there any ancestors of current shinigami that we know of that had different zanpakuto manifestations? I can recall Byakuya's gramps, but we never saw his zanpakuto.

Isshin is obviously Ichigo from the future. In his timeline, Aizen created two super Arrancar who were so powerful, they even killed Aizen. They then went on a rampage and killed all the Shinigami and for twenty years, Isshin was fighting them, etc. Eventually he built a time machine to travel back in time, but then he met Masaki, got distracted, and had a family. In fact, even the hougyoku is a creation of Aizen's that was meant to fuse with the other two Arrancar to create the most powerful warrior in the universe, but came to this timeline after Isshin returns (after Aizen is defeated) and destroys the two Arrancar, making it impossible for it to become complete.

Or maybe Ishin's Zan can imitate the abilities of those around him? or Just "Learn" abilities which is why he may (Still unknown) have shot a Arrow at Aizen when he first showed up, since he is friends with Ishida's dad.

I don't remember some kind of arrow being shot, but if that's the case, then maybe it's possible Ishida's dad could be lurking despite what little interest he'd have in helping outside of maybe saving his son in some way.

i dunno, his finger positioning looks like its pull/releasing a bow string, but i won't rule out the "poke of doooooom" either

It reminded me of spider man or shooting out a jolt of reiatsu from his fingertip, the bow string/arrow makes sense too though. I definitely don't think it was just a 'poke' though, they'd show that differently, with his finger making contact with Aizen's body instead of the shot they chose to go with.
