I was thinking the same thing. Then when yammy first appeared Tatsuki was at the park so she saw Ichigo there? and Keigo had Ikaku living with him for however long he was there

The plot hole there being the shinigami eating in several different occasions in the SS arc, and there being food stores in Roukongai, etc

You could just retcon it by saying that they do it for personal pleasure, not out of need, though.

food isn't really food there, since everything in SS is made of spiritual energy, including the buildings. can ref. to bount and quincys absorbing everything around them. Since there is no common understanding of how to absorb spirit energy around them, it's just easier to having spiritual energy in the form of food. It's an easier concept to grasp for spirits to just consume food(can think of it as food in the matrix), taste additives are a plus. They DO need "food" just like hollows need "food". how often is up for debate.

eating out of pleasure would be when spirits coming to the real world and eating stuff like candy or modern day food they don't have in SS. That was seen when Rurichiyo came to the real world to hide.
