I like Ikkaku. but he doesn't have the laugh --> MASSIVE POWER INCREASE effect that Ken-chan does, therefore he loses out.

maybe. i have a feeling kubo was going for the fact she's the lieutenant because zaraki said so, and who's going to argue with him. (i know the scary cat face back in the early eps etc etc).

How do you figure that? Ikkaku and Yumichika are easily VC level. Ikkaku even said the only reason he doesn't want to advance is because he wants to serve under Ken.

It's never really stated how strong Yachiru is and we probably won't ever know. She was already VC when Ikkaku joined, so it's not like he was going to replace her.

I think this is likely, actually. Kubo's never been clear on whether lieutenants are selected by the captain or if the second strongest member gets it automatically.

Actually, he stated in the TBTP (through Aizen and Shinji) that the captain selects his lieutenant.

those posts were actually an illusion all along. i've disabled his ability by submerging him in sea water and cutting off his chakra flow, so now the forums have returned to their normal state.
