I agree with this, what was the point in having him not only lose all his powers but also having his body (soul?) revert back in time? Seems completely pointless.

Does anyone else remember the commander having his arm lopped off? I don't. Couldn't Orihime take 10 minutes to fix him up? Same with anyone else that got fucked up.

He said that in an interview before the Deicide stuff happened. he said there was going to be a short arc and then one more. though no one's sure of the "deicide" stuff counts as an arc.
In that same interview, he said the two bodies Mayuri found would also play a big part in the future arc.

Ishigo will undoubtedly get his powers back. Isshin lost all his powers, but he got them back. And presumably, Isshin used Engetsu, since he knew about it and what it would do.
Speaking of; Isshin is a whole other gaping hole in the story left unattended to.

Here's a question... Gin is alive right? I read it as Gin got up and left without a word to anyone. He just literally disappeared while everyone was busy and left.
and not: His life disappeared from the planet and he didn't say anything to Rangiku so she could easily move on and deal with his death

Shirosaki and Zangetsu are the same. Their goal was to protect Ichigo despite his hardheadedness to protect others at his own expense. SSJ Hollow did that (on numerous occasions throughout the series, even). If both are the same and shinigami powers are now gone, it stands to reason the hollow is too. And frankly, without the shinigami portion, a remnant hollow would likely look like what we saw doing the Vizard training or Muramasa filler. Not exactly... friendly.

Anyway, I'm hoping the Isshin thing touches on the Shiba clan falling from nobility and the physical similarity between Ichigo and Kaien. Something took Kuukaku's arm. She knew Yoruichi and "owed" her for something. Urahara also knew Isshin. Whatever this event is could've prompted Isshin to use Engetsu, and perhaps in some twisted Japanese logic, I could see willfully giving up your powers as disgraceful. Also can't help shake the feeling that Ganju's dislike for shinigami was more than just his brother dying.
