I thought he told Ichigo when he fought him that his sword is always released (like Ichigo's) because it would be too hard to seal it, so he's always in shikai. He just doesn't know his sword's name.

Oh, that's could be right. We don't learn about the different Shikais(always on or release) until after the fight, but I think Ichigo "sealed" his before it became a shikai and Zaraki never did it. I know, at least to him, it's just a normal sword.

Like ichigo, Zaraki's sword is always released in Shikai - but because he does (or didn't ) know it's name, it always stayed in that released state and never went back to its old state or moved on to another. Wayyy back when Ichigo fought the first menos with Ishida, Ishida said that Ichigo's spirit energy is like an open faucet always pouring out water, Zaraki is the same way. They're always released.

that, and the official bleach book, which i dont have any pics of (poidh aside), also states he has his shikai.

now just dont forget he still doesnt actually know his swords name, so at the moment it might as well not even be released at all. Im sure if/when/if not already he learns it's name they'll get stronger (see what zangetsu said during zaraki/ichigo fight), and most undoubtedly get some special ability with it.

More fights should be like this really. Introduction, smack talk and one takes advantage, other one makes his comeback, fight over. Felt pretty quick and I'm not always a fan of drawn out fights, especially when one of the characters was basically introduced at the start of the fight.

I really liked this fight because it boasts how strong and badass byakuya really is. We've seen him fight, we've seen him condescend, we expect it... however when he cut the ligaments in his leg and arm instantly, man that just fucking owns. And when he said that he was more like the espada because he didn't have use of one arm and a leg, god, thats like saying "fuck you, nigger". I half expected him to straight out call him a nigger, really.

I laughed harder than I should have. I could totally see Byakuya being a plantation owner.

I agreee, I liked the fight as well. It was quick, painful, and a huge show of power. What I wasn't expecting was the Binding Art, I just figured he'd drop Senbonzakura and own the guy right away.
