There's probably a way to resist his effect. Rukia was weakened/unconscious which was probably the reason he was able to fully control her, if she was 100% she might've at least been able to resist it.

If you mean the anime, don't bother catching up, it's been pretty crappy lately. The manga has been good though, people are only complaining because we're all having to wait frustratingly for each issue.

Byakuya's fight isn't over, it wouldn't have finished on that pane in the manga if next one he's just going to win. It might switch to another fight though, or perhaps Zommari can avoid Senbonzakura similarly to Ichigo with his speed. I liked that Byakuya has added something with using Yoroichi's "Ninjitsu" techniques.

The 7th was all badass when he had little to no lines but in this fight he was made into Byakuya's bitch (which was awesome). I'm glad that its over and moving on to the next fight.

Ichigo never knew his first sword's name, but it was also constantly released.

You don't need to know your sword's name to get released.

Knowing your sword's name only helps you fight better with it or some shit, it isnt like if you don't know if it won't do shit. The reiatsu that Zaraki and Ichigo put out normally is much greater than other Shinigami so their Zanpaktou react to that and just auto release. Getting to know your sword is how you achieve bankai, not release, I thought.

I could have SWORN Zangetsu had a completely different form than it currently does at the start of the series.
When he learned it's name didn't it's appearance change to what it currently is...? (You know, releasing it)

Which would of course mean that's his shikai, and that original form was an unreleased form.

The first time he was ever a shinigami he had that same sword I think. Normally an unreleased sword is small but his was big right away before he even knew what he was doing.

No, according to the show. (I just watched some of the earlier episodes) That big ass sword he started with was his sword's unreleased form, the form we're used to is his Shikai, and we all know what his Bankai looks like.

Yes, he had the large sword at the beginning of the series, but he only learned the name after it was already released I believe. I'll look at the arc when he's training with Urahara again in the shop near the beginning of the series.

Edit: Chapter 66, page 4 is when his sword is released. He doesn't yell out his swords name, instead he yells "Kitsuki." From that point forward Zangetsu is released, but he does not know the name. He learns the name against Zaraki maybe? I can look around more.

Edit 2: "Kitsuki" is probably a poorly translated Kisuke, Urahara's first name. At least that was my assumption.

what i think about ichigos 1st sword is this..

after byakuya severed Ichigo's spirit power, while training with urahara to get his shinigami powers back, Urahara said that what Byakuya severed was the powers that Rukia gave Ichigo and Ichigo could still regain his shinigami powers because he still had his own spirit energy.

now for my speculation; Ichigo's 1st sword is one of the no-name swords low-level shinigami have since it is not his own spirit power that created the sword,but Rukia's. and it was so big due to his inability to control spirit energy.

the only confusing thing is that he still had the sword after he got his own powers,and he said zangetsu's name to change his 1st sword into the sword we know now.
(he said Kitsuki in most translations. "Tsuki" and "Getsu" both mean Moon,I can only assume ki and zan mean the same thing also.)

well, for all we know Ichigo's constant release type is different than zaraki's due to Ichigo's abnormal situation of becoming a shinigami, Zaraki knew the name of his zanpaktou but then forgot it somehow, or it's just a loop-hole situation that happens in Manga every so often since many shonen are many many chapters and most of the story's smaller details arent that well planned out that many chapters ahead.


I hope Mariya kills apallo fast. He's been fighting for waaaaaaaaay to long. but..he'll probably spend the entire chapter talking about why Mayira is out of breath and on his knees, only to have Mariya stand up and be perfectly fine on the last page. with the next chapter having Mariya explain how he has resisted Apallo's trap till the end of that chapter.

I don't think that the large sword was only Rukia's spirit energy. I think that Rukia's energy was like a pilot light of sorts. She sparked the fire that let Ichigo's spirit energy to release and create the large sword. Ichigo could already see the hollow and ghosts so his energy was present, plus there were always lines thrown in that said he was not able to control his own energy.

When Ichigo was training with Urahara he had the large hilt and sheathe, even though his powers from Rukia were severed according to your idea.
