Iirc, it was Byakuya who made the comment about Ichigo's power being condensed into the sword. At first he made fun of Ichigo saying there's no way to have such a small bankai, then after seeing Ichigo's speed and getting injured, he said that.

The idea was that the super speed was a result of condensing his abnormally massive power into a form he could wield normally. At least against Byakuya, it gave him speed that a Captain couldn't keep up with.

But later we see Grimjaow having no problem keeping up with him, even with a further speed/power boost from the Vaizard mask. Then later on Ichigo gets out-blitzed by Uliquiorra. Logical extension would mean that if Ichigo is getting trashed even with Bankai super speed and a mask, so should all the Captains since Bankai alone made him untouchable. But Kyoraku has absolutely no issue with Starrk, Hitsugaya manages to avoid getting trashed by Hallibel, and Byakuya himself has no problem dealing with the guy who is supposed to have the fastest sonido.

We later get that snippet where Isshin says that all Captains consciously control their zanpaktou form or else they would all carry zanpaktou the size of skyscrapers. That would explain Ichigo's bankai being worthless (you get a Bankai ability to passively do something all the Captains can do subconsciously!), but that still doesn't explain Byakuya's inability to keep up with Ichigo at Souguyou.

This and much of the rest of the fail in Bleach derives from how Kubo began pulling things out of his ass after the Soul Society arc which was all he had initially pre-planned

As for Ichigo's speed thing, I'd say the only flaw there is the assumption that other captains and such haven't been training to improving their own parameters on the sidelines. For some, just seeing Ichigo could've been an "Ohshi-" moment convincing them they haven't been living up to their potential. Maybe as we learn more about his Fullbring and how the coat relates to the bankai, we might find out he was using it wrong and it wasn't so much about super speed, but a combination of things.

Hasn't it been mentioned that the Shinigami follow the same rule that Saiyans do, where they become substantially stronger after getting the shit kicked out of them? That could explain their power boost after Ichigo and Aizen's crew curb stomp all of them.

Speaking in Kubo's defense, between the Rescue Rukia Arc and the Invade Hueco Mundo Arc, the captains all had time to "train"-- Hitsuguya even got his ass handed to him by a lackey of Grimmjaw's, then later on he can go toe-to-toe with the #3 Espada. They couldn't have sat around and did absolutely nothing.

Yah, I don't enjoy the terrible story-telling and Plot holes. I'm going to rewatch the series later with my GF, and I've told her we're stopping at the end fo the Soul Society Arc, cause after that it gets pretty stupid.

I enjoy the manga for what is it, But some of the stupid gets to me.. The one thats most annoying was just described in the quoted poster above this. How in SS arc Achigo achieved this Epic Speed to where captains couldn't keep up, Later on its just completely non-Existent.

Even now in the new arc, It kinda just feels like Ichigo hit a power-ceiling so they just dumped his powers and made him start from basically Scratch. I know once he "Gets his powers back", he won't have the same power he had in the final fight with Aizen, there will be some lame excuse as to why he's only got Shikai, Bankai, or Pre-Vizard powers. etc.

Eh. Theres so much to complain about in Bleach even I, who still kinda like the series, am starting to become overwhelmed >.>
