The black Getsuga Tensho is the hollow's move, it's even compared to a cero later on. The regular blue one is Zangetsu's, or any getsu zanpaktou I would assume.

EDIT: Kubo is bad but come on guys, some of this stuff was flat out stated in the manga.

Both Engetsu and Zangetsu are somewhat similar in naming, engetsu meaning slashing moon and zangetsu cutting moon or some shit like that. Hints strongly at the fact that the zanpakuto share abilities within families, even if they're not the same entity.

They need a new character and it should be a female with her zanpkattwhatever being named sailor getsu. bitch can troll and dance at the same time, shit would be awesome.

Apart from the third or fourth seat in Ukitake's squad and Unohana's VC, are there any other relative Shinigami? I can remember that one of the gate guards was related to someone Ishida beat back during the Soul Society arc, but the guard didn't have a release so that's irrelevant.

There's also Ganju, Kukaku and Kaien, but Kaien was the only one who was a Shinigami. If somehow Ichigo is connected to their family, would expect some shared abilities there, but who knows~

Also, thinking about this, how would anyone be related in Soul Society since it's just dead people. I wouldn't expect a lot of cases where people died close together (like Rukia and her sister), so the lack of similar abilities amongst family members might be the result of Soul Society families not being as traditional as we imagine them (and never being properly addressed..). Ichigo and Isshin might be one of the few Shinigami who are directly related.

That, and I highly doubt their abilities are tied to their family. The exception being Isshin and Ichigo - and that's only becauser Isshin fathered Ichigo while being a Shinigami, something I believe is unheard of in Shinigami history. I truly believe that is the only reason Ichigo share abilities with his father.

It's fully possible that Shinigamis within the same family have the same or similar abilities, but I'd like to think abilities are more closely related to their personality than their family bond. Almost every Shinigami we know of have a Zanpakuto that fits their personality really well. Aizen was deceptive, so his zanpakuto had the ability to hypnotize people. Shunsui, for example, is very lazy. And so is his Zanpakuto. He don't like to fight with his full power and like to fight on "even ground", and his Zanpakuto only allows him to use her full power "when she feels like it" - and at that point allows both parties to use her in her games.

Ukitake refuses to fight a child (or in the presence of a child); and ironically his sword are twin children. He's known for unsuspectingly giving people gifts, and his sword has the ability to absorb an attack and returning it to the enemy.

The most obvious example is perhaps Kenpachi who just used brute force (similar to his sword), or Renji who's a "baboon". Toshiro is also a somewhat obvious example who's cold and loathes the company of others. Or Mayuri, who wants to capture his enemies alive and as such has a weapon that paralyzes them or poisons them, rendering them immovable to allow him to capture and study them. Or Tousen who is blind, and as such has the ability to knock out the senses of his opponents.

Byakuya is another example with his cherry blossoms. They represent life and a quick death; and during WW2 pilots would paint them on their airplanes for suicide missions.

Hers is e ash one, no? I don't know. Soi fong (is that her name) bankai also breaks the rule, as she said herself. Doesn't her ashes have some special ability? I'll look it up when I get home.

Yeah, I don't think it really has much to do with likes or personality. At least there's not enough evidence to suggest it. Dots are just being connected because you could connect anything with everything. and Uzor, the examples your giving are just way crazy out there, especially Ukitake's lol
not to mention you got Shunsui's wrong. his zanpakytou doesnt work only when it wants to work. It's always active, and what rules the game is played by is determined by the environment (like stepping on shadows, or being higher up.)

Actually Shunsui's zanpakutou only uses its abilities when it feels like it, Shunsui has to play along, it was stated dutring the Starrk fight.

Yes; I know. But he said in his fight against Stark that he can't always use it because she doesn't always want to play, didn't he? And when she does want to play, he has to do it by her rules, which is why he doesn't want to use his Bankai.

As for Matsumoto, hers is called Ash Cat, so it actually does fit her personality. Felines are considered beautiful, defiant, lazy and playful, which actually does fit her.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I dont remember him saying it only worked when it wanted to, and I have to leave for work in 5 minm so can't look it up, but the wiki doesnt say anything like that.
In fact, from what the wiki says, it says the opposite, and that it forces him to play.

Exactly, it forces him to play when she feels like playing. If I remember right, he said in the fight against Starrk that the reason he didn't use his Bankai when they first started is because he doesn't like using the Bankai because he don't like playing by her rules - and because she only plays when she wants to.

Hopefully some people will have developed theirs in the time he's been gone. Like, say, Matsumoto. Hopefully they'll also have replaced the missing captains finally...
