Same. Though i don't think Urahara is going to be the real enemy here. He probably had a hand in creating the badge, what with his former Position... Also i don't think Ukitake is as evil as they're making him out to be... Of course they were going to watch Ichigo's progress..

Limiting it? Not sure, Killing him if he disobeyed? Well if the movies taught me anything its that Soul Society is an Ass-backwards place ready to kill anyone and everyone at the drop of the hat.

But i don't think those follow the Manga.

It's actually a stunningly sensible and efficient (if harsh) plan. None of it screams evil, juat that Ukitake is willing to take extreme measures to protect soul society. The only amazing revelation here is that someone in bleach is capable of making plans that aren't needlessly overcomplicated.

When you think of how much of an overbearing ass Yama-Ji is, it's really not that shocking. And then considering Ichigo was more powerful than Aizen at one point, why the hell wouldn't they want to keep tabs on him. It's too bad this is Kubo because you could get some really good writing out of this situation.

Some of you are hating just to hate now. This is probably one of, if not, the most sensible plot development to come out of Bleach in years. Why wouldn't Soul Society keep tabs on those ridiculously powerful that they obviously pose some kind of threat, beneficial or not? The fact Kubo even makes sure to mention everyone in SS was aware of the truth behind the badge* shows this plot wasn't all that evil that Ukitake is some kind of Aizen v.2 now. Just seems like he created the protocol for it and everyone in Soul Society agreed.

Seems a simple enough plan unless some of you hating want more illusions.

Seriously. They restrict the reiatsu of any vice-captain and higher class person in the real world, why the hell wouldn't they do the same to Ichigo when he's already demonstrated the ability to go toe-to-toe with a few captains?

It's not that it doesn't make sense, it's that Kubo is using the exact same plot device for every freaking characters in the series (villains or not). It's fine to have characters like this once in a while, but when 3/4 of your cast is constantly pulling secretive bullshit, it get ridiculous.

And Bleach isn't clever enough to pull it off in an interesting way. Kubo just come out with these things out of nowhere, and it no implication on anything that has happened or will happen after.

Pretty much. It's the manga-hipster thing to hate on Bleach randomly. I have nothing negative to say about this plot development.

I will however say that it's not as retarded sounding as people think it is. Uchitake simply followed orders passed down to him like a good captain should be doing. This shit is starting to come full circle now-- the Spirit King or (whoever is running the Zero Squad) has obviously been passing down orders to Central 46/Yama-ji to subjugate exceptionally strong Shinigami and Substitute Shinigami for years. Aizen probably caught wind of these plots, and formulated his own plans to rebel and eventually dispose the Spirit King his own way when he obtained both Hogyoku and/or amassed a strong enough hybrid of Arrancar to fight with. Urahara can't be the bad guy, as he's allowing Ichigo to finally learn the truth-- he probably still agrees that the Spirit King is something that simply must continue to exist for whatever reality-based reason, however.

...and Ichigo has had plenty of chances to find out what has been going on:

1) When Afro-san initialy told Ichigo he'd never heard of a "Shinigami Substitute Badge."
2) When he first found out his dad was a Shinigami, he stopped his dad from explaining the situation, stating "I don't care, tell me when you're ready."
3) When Aizen was about to tell Ichigo what he was and his purpose before his dad stopped him at the Shinigami/Human part.
4) Upon Aizen being defeated, he blabs random shit about the Spirit King while Ichigo was within earshot-- before Aizen could say more shit, Urahara sealed him up.
5) Ginjou wanted to talk to Ichigo about his father and his family in detail after they first met up, but was stopped by Ikumi randomly.
6) Ichigo hears Rukia talking to him through his badge during Fullbring Training, but thinks nothing of it.

Ginjou is more than likely telling the plain truth, but feeling jilted that Soul Society tried to get rid of him as well at some point in time.

Who cares about the chances Ichigo had, it's the viewer that had none. Kubo constantly make new rules and his power level across the board are retarded. How were we supposed to know it was abnormal for him to be powerless until now? He has been human only on a few occasions until this arc, and the show never gave us any hints that it was not the norm.

And even in this arc (which is the first time we see him fight as a human), the absence of power was explained by the Final Getsuga, not by the mysterious medal he was carrying for 3 years.

Just pointing out that Kubo is actually writing some semblance of a storyline instead of "coming up with things out of no where." It's like people believe that Kubo has been stuck on stupid forever and can never think of anything at all (or read his previous work, which he's obviously been doing for some time now).

Nothing wrong with using the badge story to explain what has been going on, since it was given to Ichigo in a hastily manner in the first place, leaving the subject open to build upon at a later date. The fact that he used it in the human world those few times to obtain his Shinigami powers makes all the more sense. Afro-san can be whatever, Kubo is just tying together previous elements of his story for this arc, and he made it work, starting with Afro-san not hearing about the badge before. There has to have been more than just two badges, due to how Ginjou worded the facts. Nothing new for mangaka to look back at previous work and formulating a new story, pretty typical.

I think you're just fishing for reasons to talk shit about the manga, kinda old news.

P.S.: Kisamoo and a few other people answered it better than I could anyways.

Am I the only one who thinks this plot development is lame and uninteresting? Maybe I'm just jaded because of the tabs things like Facebook, Gmail and our own government keep on us, but who fucking cares if Ichigo's being monitored and limited? If his reiatsu is being slowly sapped and used for some shady purpose in Soul Society, okay, maybe that's interesting. But big fucking deal, he's constantly monitored. It's not dramatic, shocking or interesting. It's just boring.
