Renji didn't have his Bankai stolen, he just got his ass kicked before he could even summon it. Everyone assumed they were just stealing the Bankais, but if Kubo's original plan was to require them to understand the Bankai to steal it, then that was actually a good bait-and-switch to to prevent Renji's from being stolen. Also, didn't he say that Renji's Bankai had evolved as well over the 17 months that Ichigo didn't have his powers?

Not that it'll matter -- Renji 'll still get beaten when it comes to a real fight..
