The explosion thing has me thinking on the importance of the young Shunsui bit. They almost made sound Ryujin Jakka had been rampaging about SS and perhaps Yamamoto had contained it, eventually learning to control it through his zanpakuto. But now that Yama's dead... So, while Bach may have absorbed some of the demon's power, the demon itself would now be free. And as much as some are hoping for Kenpachi or Zero Squad, both arriving via an explosion doesn't make much sense. I'd expect more of an oppressive reiatsu burst from either. On the other hand, a fire demon making a boom isn't unreasonable. The only other comparable ability would be Soifon's bankai. But that seems kinda meh with no hint of what she'd be firing at beyond random fodder soldiers and possibly endangering other shinigami in the process.

^ This. He probably broke through the boundary between Soul Society and HM. When that quincy guy died his barrier that he formed around Ichigo disappeared. We will get a whole flash back chapter explaining it..

Anyways.. I'm still upset at how Yama died. Such bullshit.

Also, I assumed that fire demon thing was yama lol. That was him 1000 years ago when he let his bankai slaughter the quincy, and now he's gone because yama has softened.

Shinigami tend to use Senkai gates to get around, while the explosion at the end looks more like the method that Urahara uses to get into SS (I'd reference the scene where Ichigo and co. first break into SS, but I can't be bothered to look for it). My immediate thought was that Zero squad should automatically be called in as soon as Zanka no Tachi is used. Either that or Ichigo has gotten free somehow, but I'd rather not have even more done off screen.
