2 pages of Bleach arguing and I'm only now getting involved? I am surprised.
let me just reiterate what others have said as I don't want to feel left out!

1; Nowhere was it explained that hollow were anything like a balance. Hollows are simply human souls that degenerated into a mass of anger/hate/base instincts.
2; It's never been said or hinted at that Quincy "hunted" anything except for Hollow. They definitely weren't going out of their way to kill Shinigami.
3; Ignoring non-cannon sources is what you're supposed to do.
4; Because perhaps they want to destroy Gotei 13 or whatever Soul Society stands for. Hell, maybe the balance is just a popularly believed lie and these Quincy know some deep sark truth. Whatever Bach's beef with the Old Man was, it most likely involved him and his institution. Or gaining control of SS will give him what he needs to further whatever agenda he's planning to advance.
5; Of course there are "big unexplained holes" right now. Are you retarded or do you just not understand how storytelling works?

Fuck, no matter how many times I've read this chapter, shit is just too epic. Hate on Kubo all you want but the last couple of chapters with Yama-ji's character development, along with his pathetic death was incredible. He brilliantly displayed how incredible his power was, how brutal he used to be which supported his retarded decisions earlier in the manga concerning ryoka's, and how he ultimately became empathetic towards humans and his reluctance to involve them yet provide them the tools to protect themselves.

Fuck tha haters son.

I agree with everything you said except about his death. Having him die in one stroke undermines the entire premise of power in Bleach.

If the Zero Squad is made up of members of the Gotei 13, it must have some sort of connection to Soul Society. One could assume that SS getting screwed over means nothing good for the Spirit King and wherever he lives.

Well he did absorb the bankai (Does that mean Zapakto as well?), so you're essentially reducing the guy to someone with a lot of Reiatsu. Another explanation may be that he used North (Looks similar tbh) which seemed to be a Zantetsuken-FUCKEH-THOU move anyway.

Quite frankly, we've seen enough "shounen-bad-guy" like behavior to speculate that Kudo may make SS turn out to be the bad guys here. Just speculation though.

We don't really know what Yama's bankai does to his strength after, either. As is, he wasn't 100% going into the fight, as evidenced by the reference to his arm.

It's a completely different scenario. No one gave too much of a shit about Hiyori, she ultimately didn't matter. Yama-ji on the other hand has been said quite a few times if he were to ever fall, so would Soul Society. Kubo sucks at writing but I doubt he would so retardedly troll even at this level.

She also got sliced from the waist down. So, while probably fucking excruciating, I could see someone living. Meanwhile, Yama got more of what we'd expect of vital organs to get hacked through. And nuked.
