Problem is, when people die, they're supposed to lose memories of their life. While we did see exception with the parrot boy recognizing Chad, it was never really explained why. Though, I'm sure the, "They were in contact with Ichigo's spirit energy!" part would play out.

But yeah, the uncle line seems to finally link Isshin to the Shibas, and given Ginjou's use of him to bait Ichigo way back, I still think maybe he got his substitute powers from him.

In the MS translation it mentions they were wandering around soul society aimlessly so they potentially could have forgotten who they are.

As far as the parrot boy remembering Chad; (If I am remembering it right) it could be because the boy was already a spirit when they met.

Kubo could have also forgotten which if definitely possible.

The entire "memories of their life" is subtlety explained-- Kūkaku Shiba saved them all from Rukongai by some unknown method; might mean she helped them recover their memories as well.

They are training for the upcoming war with the Vandenrich. Kūkaku probably saw their potential as souls who could manipulate reishi and fight.

The anime implied "carried" more than "rode" if that's the scene you're thinking about. Somewhat suspect that knuckles isn't there if that's any indication.

I took it he died when I originally read it in the manga and the anime heavily implied it too. Wasn't there a bit where if souls were heavily connected to one another they'd ultimately always reunite in another lifetime or am I imagining that part?
