I thought it was said his sword is already in shikai state. Like Ichigo's. I don't think he will get bankai. That's a lot of improvement in a short time. Unohana will probably just teach him better sword techniques. Even with all his strength he's not really skilled.

Well he is part everything, might as well be part Saiyan while we're at it and he gets stronger every time he gets hurt and healed.

no. His sword is simply there. It's not a shikai, it's just a long, pointy, jagged, kinda dull blade which he uses to great justice.

Also bear in mind what Unohana noticed about Ichigo before he learned Final Getsuga Tensho. His clothing was representative of his reiatsu, and even at half-present, he had about as much reiatsu as any captain in the Gotei 13, barring Kenpachi.

Just imagine that little fucker with those reflexes of his and maxed-out reiatsu.

I just assumed she likely stepped down from that title.

I don't remember the full details of the Kenpachi, But i believe there were two ways they could be retired, one being defeated, and well, Moving. but TBH, Even if the rules now dictate you can only be removed from the Kenpachi position by being defeated, Who the F**K would have argued with her back then?

It was confirmed outright in the manga that it's always shikai. He's the one who explained to ichigo that his sword was always in shikai mode.
