well I supposed modification counts, just that it was really "utterly" destroyed...

I just thought that "modification" you have to have some "parts" to start with, since prior to 516 we didn't know that bankais can't be restored...hence I didn't bring up anything about Ikkaku, not trying to troll, just trying to get all this figured out.

just hope that Kubo has an explanation for this, but I guess that's too high of an expectation for Kubo too...

Your line of thinking is predicated on "Inoue couldn't fix it." when it's more like she simply didn't fix it. She's in Hueco Mundo chillin' with Grimjaw and Kisuke, not in Soul Society. And it makes more sense for Ichigo to get his shit fixed, get powered up and get every one else healed at the Soul Palace than it does for him to go back to Hueco Mundo and get into a fight with Grimjaw - or for Kisuke to leave Hueco Mundo and bring Inoue to Soul Society since there's still some shit that needs done down there.

Beyond that, it's been established that Bankais can be repaired, but they won't go back to their original state. Some lose power, some might just change the look or abilities might change; not much has been explored outside of Ikkaku's. And when it comes to Mayuri, who the fuck knows. Maybe I missed him talking about how he fixed his own, I can't remember.

What was the name of the pretty boy, the one also in Ikkaku's squad?

I recall that he didn't like the way his zanpatkto manifested, so he called the sword a name it disliked, and it manifested differently. But, when he called it by its proper name, shit got real unfortunate for his enemy.

So there is some precedent for shikais and bankais taking different forms, although Ikkaku, Mayuri, and Ichigo's circumstances are obviously different.
