Ichigo's power can't be stolen 'cause he's not really a shinigami. He's just the son of one. I guess that makes him sort of a shinigami, but not really. He's more of a Quincy because... like... his mom was one.

What's up with this Japanese trend of having the main character always taking his "hidden" mother's sur-name. I mean, if Kubo had released this shit prior to Naruto doing it, I might have been somewhat surprised. As is, I reacted with nothing more than a "huh, so this must be an official trope in Japan".

I'd like to take a moment to reflect on an earlier chapter.

Remember when Aizen got interrupted while saying "After all, you're the offspring of a Shinigami and a ---"

Everyone panned the translation and said that it was supposed to be saying human, and it was a foregone conclusion and all that.

Nope. All planned.

Actually if you look back one of the issues was that the one chapter ends with Aizen saying "a shinigami and a..." and the very next chapter says "a human and a...". That was actually Kubo's error; I remember MS making a post about it I assume because people bitched at them.

It was stated at the beginning of the arc Ishida's grand-father was basically the last traditional Quincy and was considered a weakness that the rest of them abandoned. I wouldn't call the rest of them using different weapons now some kind of grand revelation but rather common sense lol.

I'm assuming it has something to do with hiding peoples identities since in Japan, people are more frequently referred to by their surname, where western media can hide a person's last name by just not giving it.

This is the primary thing I was thinking while reading the chapter. Then I went back and looked at it after I read this and realized how many frames still didn't have backgrounds or were just copypasta non-white backgrounds, lol. It's like Kubo is only able to put a set amount of detail into each chapter, so if he does a bunch of non-joke srsbzns close ups then the backgrounds have to go to even it out. This is totally the real reason he uses so many gags, because joke-mode people use less lines.

Ichigo's power can't be stolen 'cause he's not really a shinigami. He's just the son of one. I guess that makes him sort of a shinigami, but not really. He's more of a Quincy because... like... his mom was one.

The reason nobody but the lead quincy could steal the captain commander's bankai was because they weren't powerful enough right? Or was it that they needed to understand it, or was it both? I thought the reason Ichigo's wasn't stolen was because of the same reasoning. If that's not the case, it's hard to rule out his special circumstances since he's half human/shinigami/hollow/zanpakuto/fullbringer/quincy/black.
