Speaking of which, I read on wikipedia last night that there's supposed to be a filler arc starting in April which introduces Gin's replacement as squad 3 captain. To that I say: WTf.

April 9th's episode looks like it's going to be epic. A majority of the fight seems to be taking place during it, they aren't dragging it out apparently which is awesome, but it also means they will most likely be doing filler like suspected since it's going so quickly.

Doesn't matter though, this weeks episode and the previews for next are enough to make me psyched for it.

From what I've read on another forum (don't have source off hand so take this with a grain of salt right now, though the spoiler seems to confirm it a bit...), Kubo is taking a vacation from the manga for 2 months so they're going to do flashbacks or something during that time. So might be awhile before the main fight here happens, but flashbacks should be interesting at least.

I've always wondered if Yoruichi has a zanpakto. The dub just got to her fight with Soi Fon the other day, and all their babble made me wonder if she was actually a shinigami on top of heading up the Stealth Corps or whatever they call 'em. I've also been wondering about Kukakku Shiba since her brother was obviously in the ranks and she had some past ties with Yoruichi. If the above spoilers are accurate, I can really see all the "old captains" and such naturally playing their pivotal roles for today's generation. Hiyori's position would put her under Urahara (if I remember her being the snaggletoothed Vizard girl). Yoruichi could be squad 2 captain. Rose and Love are also Vizard if I'm remembering their roster right. Guess this leaves us wondering what squad Ichigo's dad led and I imagine some other shockers.

I've gotten the impression that any non-hollow and non-living spirit in the Bleach universe can "get" (generate?) a Zanpakuto as long as they have some requisite level of reiatsu. You may recall that Ikkaku and Kenpachi both had their Zanpakutos when they fought each other before joining the Shinigami.

More in line with your question though, Yoruichi is shown to have a short katana-style Zanpakuto in a few flashbacks during the Soul Society arcs. The two I know of offhand are in the next dubbed episode (it shows her killing a hollow with it and saving Soifon's ass), and one a few episodes before that when Ichigo comments on the training room being like the one under Urahara's shop (there's a short still image of her and Urahara fighting, and you can see it on her belt).

Regarding Kukkaku, I recall she had a sword as well, which I'd presume is her Zanpakuto, considering she's powerful enough to use that Hado #63 or whatever it was. Ganju has that cleaver-looking thing as well.
