Huh, don't know how I missed that lol. Isshin does say "these guys don't want to teach this technique" thou, so I guess they're similar enough that they even both have final getsuga in any case.

Also, there was a 10th division captain during the Pendulum arc. This is after that but before the SS invasion. You can tell because they're already looking for Shinji and the other vizards (plus they're all captains).

The only time they may have seen him was during the fight with Aizen in Karakura town, but almost everyone seemed to have been taken out at that point -- if I remember, only Urahara and Yoruichi were still upright at that point. Rangiku might have seen him when they went to the real town though..

They can't be talking about Isshin, because they (Aizen, Gin, Tousen) were captains when they started looking for Shinji Hirako. If Kubo is to be believed this should be the order of timelines:
