It could be argued that Ichigo will get a new sword, with a new name, or a new whatever... but it would be extremely poor writing on Kubo's part.

It's not poor writing on Kubo's part at all, I thought he made that abundantly clear. It sounds to me that you're arguing your theoretical interpretation of "Say goodbye to Zangetsu" instead of the obvious one, and blame that on his bad writing - even though I's pretty obvious what he means.

Edit: as for the Fullbringer arc, I don't think he's spoken to Zangetsu. Didn't Zangetsu say a final goodbye during the training or something, saying that he would disappear, too, if he chose to use FGT?

Yes but again - the sword's name is not determined by the Asauchi... it's determined by the Shinigami's soul. Zabimaru is Renji's inner spirit. It's not the name of his sword, it's the name of his spirit. It's the same thing with Senbonzakura. It's not Byakuya's sword that carries the name. It's the name of the spirit he poured into it.

It's up to Kubo to change how he wants to approach this but giving Ichigo a "new" spirit this late in the game would just be stupid.

Ichigo's sword was unique in that he basically made his own Asauchi version of an Asauchi. This one, being based on an actual Asauchi, will have a new name. And will probably stronger than the old one.

Agree with that; Zangetsu's name shouldn't be changed. I kind of thought he meant say goodbye to the "old" Zangetsu and perhaps a merge of the Asauchi and old Zangetsu would take place similar to what happened during FGT training.

I'm guessign they'll cut to a new person right before it's revealed, then jump to Kenpachi after jumping around to a few people, then after Kenpachi jump to a few people, and then back to Ichigo. My guess is about 2-3 months from now.

Considering all of the Asauchi submitted to him instantly (something that I'm guessing is unheard of), it is likely that his new sword will just tell him everything except for maybe one thing from the get-go due to the respect it has to him, or some stupid shit like that. Remember, earlier it was stated that a Zanpakuto can refuse to learn you new stuff or help you out if you're too weak - which is why Ichigo had to fight Zangetsu on multiple occasions to get his power-ups. Now that his sword instantaneously submitted to him, it probably already knows how powerful he is and will just give it to him.

Which is why I threw out the half-joke-half-theory that his new Bankai will probably be all Bankais... An Asauchi can turn in to everything, and all of the Asauchi's submitted to him. And early on in the manga it was stated that in some cases, more than one Shinigami can gain control of the same Asauchi, at which point they have to duel over who should control the Asauchi, with the loser getting executed (which is how Kenpachi came over his sword). It's basically what the Quincy's do, and he is half-quincy after all.
